I wouldn't call someone I don't know an idiot, but what he says doesn't make sense to me either. At this point he does not deserve better contract (if only worse) and all things point he's not going to have much PT this season to earn it. Also, who asks employer to pay more when employer can contractually pay you less? :dunno:

What kind of "sweet 2nd deal" do you think he can get at this point? He hasn't even made the rotation, nor has he played a minute this season. TIME TO CASH IN!

It's the 2nd game of the season. I think he would get more than 2.5 mil guaranteed in his next deal.

It's funny; I'm kind of upset the nets picked up his option, too. WE COULD HAVE HAD NICK YOUNG. Argh.

SWat scored very well on his SATs? Starting to believe someone took the test for him.

Why? The only type of deal he can get is one that's based on his potential, and not actual production. Sounds like the rookie pay scale to me.

Wasn't Nick Young taken one pick ahead of us?

Yeah, but we won the last game of the season AGAINST THE WIZARDS because of Donagay.

That was one of the games that Donaghey reportedly threw, er, influnced.

Donaguay "opted out" of his contract, and see where that got him.

I don't see anything wrong with him asking Rod for this. It's not like Rod is going to listen to him but it's good to be honest. Maybe somebody would overpay him based on potential and get a better opportunity to play, can't blame Sean for trying to get to that faster rather than just sitting at the end of our bench and watching his value drop on a game by game basis. I really don't think this was mean to be a distraction but rather a sit down with the GM that the papers ran with.

The rookie pay scale isn't the market, though. It's a slotted system.

What I'm saying is that he isn't really worth anything different than what he's getting paid now.

I think someone would give him more than 2.5 guaranteed over 2-3 years, GMs will chase young, tall upside players. But I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree.

    It's a team option for a reason.

Meh, this whole thread is silly. He's not upset about anything, he'd like to get a chance to test free agency sooner but he said it was no indication of not wanting to be here. Now that issue is passed and I highly doubt we'll see Kidd-esque shenanigans or pouting because of it.

Sean went from being the best player in camp to being mentioned in trade rumors to benched for our first two games of the season so I get why he'd be eager to either solidify his relationship with us or move on. Maybe Rod and Lawrence are making the right move by keeping Sean an intriguing prospect to potential suitors but from his perspective it's got to be a frustrating position to be in even if he's being a good teammate in the process.

There is nothing wrong with looking out for yourself as long as it doesn't cause a distraction to the team, which I highly doubt any of this will.

I understand that it's a move that allows Rod to turn him into a better trade chip, which is a no brainer move for us. Sean simply went to Rod and told him what he would like and I personally have no problem with it from either party's perspective.

I actually hope that sit down lead to an honest discussion of what Rod sees for Sean and how he can improve his role on our team as well as letting him know the reality of him being traded.

Excuse me, but are you saying that SWat was hoping that he had played badly enough that Nets wouldn't have picked up his option?

If that is the case, I have to ask, who do you think is more stupid, you or SWat?
