That adds him to the rookie of the year race. I wish Oden can play like that. Perhaps the Lakers should have held on to him.

He played a golden state team that is devoid of bigs, and Biedrins was in foul trouble for much of the time Gasol was out there.

So...? 27 and 16 is HUGE no matter who he played. Those are Dwight Howard numbers.

Oden can play better than that. I look forward to Greg Oden's first outing against Marc Gasol. Andres Biedrins put up 16 points and 22 boards against him.

One game does not make him a R.O.Y. If he keeps it up and he's averaging 16/10 by February then you can make a case. The "race" hasn't even started yet.

Biedrins is a freak on the boards, he is like a quicker Joel. But I really hope Oden has just one night this year of 27pts and 16rebs.

Rudy is definitely a player too, don't you think?

Rudy is awesome. I'm rooting for him, and he definitely has a shot if he gets enough minutes and the Blazers do well.

One game does not automatically put him in the ROY race.

I never implied that he is now in the ROY race, and I don't think he is or will be. I was just replying to your under appreciation of his accomplishment.

What makes those numbers even more impressive is this guy can't jump over a sheet of paper.

I watched the entire game and Gasol had no problem rebounding or scoring on Biedrins when he was in the game. Gasol is going to be good, maybe as good as his brother.

It puts him in the race as much as anyone else. That's the best performance by a rookie so far.

He had 12, 12, & 2 in his first game too. So he is definitely the early leader.

Mike Rice said tonight that he thought that Batum would end up in the top 4 for ROY, I think on Courtside.

He would have been the Bulls pick in that draft if the Lakers didn't nab him one pick before (Bulls took Aaron Gray as their center 2nd round pick, not bad, but not Gasol).

He's an interesting prospect, and has the potential to be a very good center in this league.

    Doubtful. Batum isn't that good.

It'll probably come down to Rose, Beasley, Fernandez, and Gasol.

If the Bulls move Gordon back into the starting lineup, and Ginobili starts for the Spurs, there could be a situation that arises like Gordon in 2005, where he loses out on the ROY, but Fernandez wins the 6th man of the year.

Gasol looked good. He is poised and he's old for a rookie... but he's a darn good-looking player (if not a good-looking man). It's not crazy to consider him in the RotY race.

Unfortunately, I'm playing against him this week in fantasy basketball. Dammit.

Another good-looking rookie? Jason Thompson, from Sacramento. The guy played center in college but he handles the ball on the break astoundingly well. His team got blown out tonight, but both he and Hawes look pretty good for the Kings' future.
