anyone catch how hard they played against the jazz today?? they are buying into dantoni's system. frank has to go. he is no teacher/motivator. how long is he going to stick with simmons as a starter???
how many new players do the nets have compared to the knicks? That plays a large role in the whole equation.
Watched the game. They looked reasonably good, played hard. Now, if they can get rid of Marbury's distraction, dump Jerome James, trade Eddy Curry for someone--anyone, and get some use out of Gallinari and Jared Jeffries, they might make the playoffs. Crawford and Robinson still have horrible shot selection and Lee seems to have regressed. They're not over the hump yet. My concern with the Nets is that the young players, while filled with potential, may not reach it this season. Yi, Boone and Lopez all have had decent games, but none all together (the Piston game came closest). Anderson looks like a candidate for the Boki seat on the bench, circa 2005.
When people say rebuilding, they mentally block out the losing part. Or they can't accept the fact they'll have a losing record for the ENTIRE season. It's like when people want to lose weight, but can't accept the fact they'll have to stop stuffing their face full of food.
listen i am not asking the nets to be the jordan era bulls here. there are ways of rebuilding and still being a decent team to watch. look at the lakers, suns, mavs, blazers.... fans will root for a team that plays hard and shows something. this is just unacceptable imo.
You want to elaborate on the Mavs, Suns, and Lakers? The only team that you were close on were the Blazers, who completely retooled their roster and started with a young foundation. Those other teams were built on big FA signings.
Yea but isn't part of rebuilidng giving your younger guys significant minutes, not 10-14 minutes a game or just flat out benching them.
I was about to post the same thing. Frank is starting the same way he did last year. This year should be about: 1) Develop Lopez's role on this team. Low post play, passing out of the post, Anchor Defense, and have him become the center of the future. 2) Develop Yi into the second offensive option. 3) Develop Harris into the future leader of this team. 4) Develop Anderson, CDR, and I guess Sean Williams for now. 5) Continue Boone's development.
I said in preseason that the Knicks would have a much better season than the Nets. (and some Nets fan(s) disagreed in that thread)
They played Utah, Utah never plays a solid game when they are in NY. Nightlife gets them even Sloan admitted to that, right now the Knicks are overachieving they played an offensively less IQ Washington that chucked 3's all night and never went to the rim, as for Utah if anyone saw that game Utah came back in the final minutes and outplayed NY. The Knicks really are hanging by 3 players Duhon/Nate/Chandler...if something happens to Duhon it's over, he does everything right except shooting the ball, Chandler is still a rookie & presents mismatches because of his athleticism he's the plus yet he's still raw and gets lost out on the floor. Nate is finally coming into his own but he is not a starter he is a Bobby Jackson role like player and every once in awhile cracks under the pressure. They are ok for the first 4-5 games, talk to me about thier gameplay when they get to game 20 or 30.
D'Antoni is a hell of a coach. Don't get me wrong the Knicks are talented and have been perpetually underachieving, but D'Antoni has made a huge difference changing the culture and attitude of the team. Lawrence Frank is one of the hardest working coaches in the league, there is no questioning his effort. I know as a Nets fan that he is trying his hardest to make this team the best they can possibly be. My problem with Frank is that I don't believe he has the ability motivate the players and therefore plays less talented players who are known as "effort players" while putting the under achievers on the bench and hoping they'll figure it out. I also believe Frank is one of those coaches who gets so emotionally invested in a game that he misses the mismatches and throws out horrible lineups situationally. For example when we are in a scoring drought he'll throw a lineup out featuring Trenton Hassell, Keyon Dooling, Bobby Simmons, Edjuardo Najera and Brook Lopez...not exactly a lineup of scorers.
I figured that it would be hard for Ryan to play much to start the season. Najera is the backup 4, as it should be. He'll get a chance to play at some point. Remember, two players will always be hurt, and two players will suck and be out of the rotation by December 1 or 10 or so. My "two injuries" rule has held up so far; Devin and CDR went down when Hassell returned (and when Najera started getting more mnutes). That doesn't include Swift, who should never play absent an emergency. As for my "two players will suck" rule: I still think that one of them will prove to be Simmons, and that Jarvis Hayes will probably become the starter. When that happens, the Nets could try using Najera as a SF, which would allow Ryan to play a little more. We'll see.
I agree with you. Yeah he throw that lineup out there. Lopez should be in the post with this lineup.The real issue here is Did FRANK tell them that? Did FRANK say Lopez to the low post and tell the other guys to give it to him?
FYI... that lineup hasn't been used. Closests to it was Simmons, Boone, Dooling, Hassell and Hayes against Indiana. They actually closed out the 3rd period +4 to cut the deficit from 12 to 8 going into the 4th. Go figure.
Same. I don't know why it was so farfetched to see the Knicks doing better than the Nets. It's still early in the season, but it looks unlikely for the Nets to make the playoffs, as suggested in that thread.
