He has a no trade, but that should not be a problem as his first choice is reportedly the Braves anyway. It's hard to see the Pads trading him to the Dodgers, but they do have a ton of good young players, so you never know. The Cubs are probably the best fit considering the Braves aren't really world series contenders anymore.
He has such a reasonable contract that it doesn't matter if the Braves aren't World Series contenders... They can hold on to him for a year or 2 while rebuilding, if he is willing. Any time you have a chance to acquire a pitcher of his stature, you have to do it. Plus... the Cubs don't have the prospects to make it fit apparently. Although, Peavy, Zambrano and Lily would make a really nice short playoff rotation. -Petey
Braves are going to get him. Cubs don't have the prospects for him like Petey said. And the Dodgers are probably going to have to give up a lot.
What a waste for the Braves. They're a ways off from being competitive, and Peavy (after taking into account all the injuries to their pitchers that will likely stretch well into next season) will be the only decent pitcher on their entire staff, aside from Jair Jurrjens.
Maybe not this year, but what about the following season? Or the one after that? They are getting Peavy who is locked into a long term deal. You have to acquire a guy like him when you can, they don't come around often. It's why trading him as the Padres doesn't make sense, unless their goal is to become the NL West 'Marlins'. -Petey
Peavy is the ONLY player they should keep. They should dump Giles, Hoffman and everyone else. All are replaceable except for Peavy. -Petey
I said they are ways off from being competitive. Not enough good players on their roster, and not enough quality prospects to package in a trade for another star (aside from Peavy). Yeah he's locked into a long-term deal, but it'll be 2011/2012 before the Braves are decent.
