I know I'll get flamed for suggesting this, but this might be the consolidation we're needing. I almost want to punch myself for even bringing this up. Let me say at the outset, I like all of the guys I'm suggesting the Blazers would trade....at lot. http://games.espn.go.com/nba/featur...4~2015~682~3027&teams=22~22~4~4~4~4&te=&cash= I get that Brandon is the face of the franchise, and he's a stud at 2G. But, we have Rudy, and Rudy may turn out to be just as good as Brandon, if we're lucky. New Roster Rose/Sergio Rudy/Jerryd/Hughes Webs/Nic (flip these if you want) LA/Frye/Ike/Shav Greg/Frye/Raef The Blazers consolidate talent and upgrade their weakest postion, with a young stud. They have enough minutes to go around, except at SG. They lose Joel and Brandon and that, as they say around here, butthurts. The Bulls get some size with Joel and Trav. They get a stud SG, and a steady backup to Kirk. They get out of Hughes' contract ($12.8M!!). Ok, let me have it! *Ducks and runs for cover*
Hell no what are you thinking and that is coming from a huge Rose fan. I really wanted the Blazers to get Rose as our PG last year.
crazy, Roy is going to have his jersey retired at the Rose Garden......you don't trade players like that their 3rd year in the league...he's the face of the franchise and our leader. nuts.
I always liked Roy but after his play this year I think he is just behind the top few players Kobe, LeBron, Wade etc. I really think he is getting really close to the top tier of star players and Rose isn't there yet. I do think Rose will end up the 3rd or 4th best PG in the league but he isn't there yet and Roy is already getting close to the top tier of SG's IMO. He is so clutch which is really hard to find a player like Roy. You also want to trade other good players we need Joel, Outlaw etc. and take back a bad contract in Hughes. We can't trade Joel until we know Oden is going to stay healthy. I actually think the Bulls would think about this trade but KP would hang up.
I think neither team would take the risk. Roy is currently superior and has upside left. Rose possesses the risk of being unproven, but has the possibility of being a top-tier point guard (if he becomes a Chris Paul level player, he'll be significantly more valuable than Roy). With all the rest of the young talent Portland has, they'd probably prefer the certainty that Roy represents, rather than increasing the risk/reward factor another step. Chicago, facing a major building effort, needs the highest upside potential it can get. So, I suspect this deal would be viewed unfavourably by both sides.
Ugh! Kinda thought this might be the reaction. I think that, unless Roy and Rudy can learn to play in the back court together (and I don't think that is a given), we will have to look at moving one of them. It is a waste of talent to have a guy as good as Rudy coming off the bench, IMO. Seems like there is not doubt among you guys above that it will be Rudy, then? I don't think Rudy brings back a D. Rose. A PG that gets 19pt/5rb/6ast, with good FG%, 3pt%, FT%. That's not there yet? Very similar to Brandon's stats, even though I'll admit that Brandon's value isn't reflected well by stats.
Look at the mug on this guy - see avatar. You want to trade him? I was really into finding a way to luck into Rose with the lotto (didn't happen) or trade up to get him. He was my #1 (he he) choice for our team a long ways off from the draft. I baaaadly wanted defense and good size at the 1 spot. Once we lost the lotto and he vaulted up the draft board, that dream died. I love the idea of trading for Rose. But, you don't trade one good young guard for another. There is little point to it. Instead, consider trading Aldridge for Rose. That is a "stupid" big for small trade, but the only way to get Chicago to even think about it. Then use the cap space this summer to sign a FA power forward. Boozer, Odom, Marion, Marvin Williams, Milsap and David Lee among others are free agents. Or in a lopsided money trade players like AK-47 & Diaw might be available. Look how many real good young points are in the NBA. Few. Look how many real good young power forwards are in the NBA. A bit more than a few. It is a bit easier to get another decent power forward than point guard. Rose/Roy/Rudy RRR - The best 3 guard rotation in the NBA. Dear god.
I actually think its an awesome trade for you guys (but it wont happen of course). Nobody really want to accept this team is 2-3 years off and this trade sets that up even more AND eliminates log jams and putting people in unnatural positions. Then when everybody is REALLY ready to rock the NBA then BOOM trade that large expiring in Hughes and get the disgruntled 2nd tier star in the position you decide you need help in at that point. Maybe if you replaced "Roy" with the word "widget" in you mind you can think about this trade more clearly
I see the thought process, and while not completely bat shit crazy (close) I think I'd rather just go ahead and roll with Brandon as the leader of this team and him being one of only a handful of guys that are truly clutch in the league. Rose is going to be great I'm sure, but I'll pass.
SA has done just fine with Manu coming off the bench, and for 10 games, I would say we have done just fine with Rudy coming off the bench. There's 96 minutes to go around at the guard position. Once we find that 3rd guard(Bayless?), you have a 3 guard rotation, each getting roughly 32 minutes. You don't trade Roy for that, and you don't feel the need to sweeten it for them by adding in Outlaw and Przybilla, and taking on Hughes.
Of coarse you would like that trade anything to keep us from being a great team in the next couple years.
LOL. You would have to trade 2 of 4 of Brandon Roy, Rudy Fernandez, Greg Oden, and LaMarcus Aldridge to get Derrick Rose, and that's the conservative estimate of what it'll take. Definitely not that package.
