Joel and Oden's combined stat line for the night: 40 minutes: 9-13 FGs, 25 points, 19 boards, 6 blocked shots, 0 turnovers, and 3 measly personal fouls. Holy fucking shnikes!
I absolutely love how Joel is playing. Our offense really flows well to begin games to the point that it's sort of disappointing to see him leave, and Joel is playing really well defensively. Greg's presence kind of stagnates the offense a little bit, but it's only a matter of time before he gets going and when he's on, I can't even imagine what it's going to be like.
Knowing that GO can come off the bench for him allows Przy not to worry about getting into foul trouble. As a result, he's become much more agressive.
Closest I can think of recently was Yao backed up by Mutombo, a few years ago. Yao was excellent and Mutombo was really productive in limited minutes and still a strong defensive presence.
Who is the real two headed monster? Is it Joel Oden or Greg Pryzbilla? If you're amazed by their combined states for the Bulls game, look at the numbers for the three previous games. Against the Warriors: 31 points, 12 rebounds, 2 blocks. Against the T-wolves: 23 points, 16 rebounds, 4 blocks. Against the Hornets: 19 points, 18 rebounds, 4 blocks. I know they will have their ups and downs, but I think our 5's are not only producing very solid numbers but will continue to improve their play and put up even better numbers as the season goes on. I was thinking the same thing last night, its nice to see Joel play to his true potential, i knew there was more that he could bring.
Got to think with all the teams out there needing a center we have to be getting some pretty good offers for him. Might be to good at some point to pass up.......
What level of player would you consider "too good at some point to pass up..."? That player, in my mind, has moved up quite a bit from the beginning of the season.
Shooters and slashers can always be found on the open market. The reason teams like Chicago and Miami don't have centers is because big men who can actually play are too rare a commodity. When you get one, hold him. If you get two, league look out! iWatas
