hows he doing in whatever league he is in? remember A LOT(like everyone) wanted to bring him over this year. i think we trade the rights to him because we are stacked at guard position
He plays for La Fortezza Bologna in the Italian league (Serie A), along with Earl Boykins. Currently averaging 2.5 ppg in 11.8 mpg (played 4 or 5 games I think).
Honestly I don't think any of us care what his ppg are. The real question is how many assists does he have.
I agree those stats don't look too good, but it's only five games into the season and he has just joined a new club in a new country. I'm sure he'll improve. .. it's not easy to adapt to new circumstances, as the summer league star bayless has shown so far. petteri's stats: g1: 12 min - 5 pts - 1 ast - 2 stl - 1 to g2: 0 min g3: 7 min - 1 pt - 2 ast - 1 to g4: 14 min - 4 pts - 3 rb - 1 to g5: 14 min - 0 pts - 2 to 11,8 min - 2,5 pts - 0,8 rb - 0,8 ast - 1,0 to - 0,5 stl 2pt: 2/5 3pt: 1/6 ft: 3/4 http://195.56.77.208/player/?id=KOP-PET-88&year=2008&team=1170
You know until you brought this thread up, and with Rudy playing like he has, I had completely forgot this dude even existed.
petteri got a season high 20 minutes of playing time sunday, when la fortezza won at cantu 87-69. he had 4 points, 1 rebound and 1 assist. that doesn't look too good, but what's interesting is that he recorded a team high +23 in the +/- statistic. 12,2 mpg / 2,2 pts / 0,7 rpg / 0,8 ast / 0,3 stl / 0,8 to .. to put petteri's less than impressive stats in perspective, brandon jennings isn't doing too well statistically either while playing in the same league (17,3 mpg / 4,3 pts /1,3 rpg / 3,0 ast / 1,3 stl / 1,3 to) and I agree, it's impossible to say anything without seeing the games..
Joel Freeland is doing MUCH better; 2008/09 ACB Joel Freeland 11 pts and 5 rebs in only 17 minutes per game. He'll be here next year and Channing soft as charmin Frye is a goner.
Also, the Euro leagues are MUCH stingier on Assist compilation than the NBA. It's a rules difference. Most scouts will say that 2 NBA assist = 1 Euro league assist. Now I know that 1.6 apg still doesn't look good, but I'm excited to see what the kid can do.
so boykins is gone, meaning more minutes for petteri - though bologna surely tries to sign someone to fill boykins' spot. anyway, koponen got record high 33 minutes in the 78-63 win, scoring 7 points along with 2 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals. stats so far: 3.2 ppg / 14.7 mpg / 58,3 2p% (7/12) / 17,3 3p% (3/17) / 75% ft% (12/16) / 1.3 rpg / 0.9 tpg / 0.5 spg / 0.7 apg
Can't wait until he's here. Obviously better than anyone else on the roster. I will be so mad if KP trades him along with other young talent like Outlaw to get a player who can step in and make us better.
Trade his rights because we are "stacked at the guard position"? The Portland Trail Blazers? Shooting guard, sure. But currently, our starting PG would be a good backup (granted, he's had a few really good games this year); our second string PG is still a 22-year-old project; our third string PG, who most people seem to think is the best PG on the roster, is a 20-year-old rookie with so much to learn he can't even get on the court. Petteri and Bayless probably have the most potential of any PG the Blazers have (and that's coming from a Sergio homer). Kopo could certainly be included in the right deal, like any player, but I doubt seriously there is any desire to trade him because we are too "stacked." Koponen still has a lot to prove, but in the little we've seen he has looked like a taller, better shooting, better defending, more under control Sergio (although, this year's Sergio plays more under control than last year's Sergio; and Sergio actually has a pretty adequate 3-point shot now -- his end-of-quarter percentage-killing heaves notwithstanding). Boykins leaving the team is great news for Kopo, and the Blazers, if he can get some of those minutes. I'm already really excited to see how Kopo looks next summer. It would seem there is a decent chance the Blazers find a spot for him and Freeland next year.
