Have you read the debates here on Blake, Outlaw, Webster . . . even Oden? There are a lot of different views about what each these players will develop (or not develop) into.
Not trying to jump all over your post, but I don't think it is an accurate generalization. Log on after a Blazer loss (if they lose again) . . . there is a lot of hate and criticism going on. On each loss there will be Travis hate, Nate hate, and Blake hate. And on any given loss Aldrdige, Joel, Oden and Sergio will be thrown into the mix. There are some posters who think all Blazer players can do no wrong . . . but who really cares what HCP thinks.
I haven't seen a realistic trade proposal yet that involves us receiving a point guard and also improves our team.
I agree a lot of people hate on Travis, or Jack last year and blame them for our struggles, but the guy has a good point when people are saying they would rather have Batum then say Gerald Wallace right now
Right, but, outside of the Martell-Travis debate, which seems to have two distinct sides, there seems to be a relative consensus on a lot of our players. And my observation has been, over time, that the mean of these comparisons, of what a player will become is generally a higher for players on our team than it is for players on other teams. Natural, I know, because we see them more, they are on our team, etc. I am not saying it is the worst thing ever, and we are all awful homers who should not get to discuss basketball. just saying it is a difficult discussion because many will say Conley is too short, has put up bad stats, etc. If Bayless was on another team, I would imagine the flaws about his PG ability would be magnified by our fans. In general. As in, you take the average of what people expect out of him, and Tony Parker's name wouldn't probably enter the discussion. Batum's absolute ceiling would probably be Teyshaun. And Oden would be mocked. Will everyone do this? No. Not at all. And it is a thing most fans do, to overrate their players. But it makes looking at trades of somewhat fan favorites difficult. Before he was drafted, Greg Oden was wanted by every single fan base. The second WE got the first pick, the questions and criticisms came out.
I think it is a good point about fans giving lots of love to rookies. I don't know about other boards, but Blazer fans love the draft picks (I think most teams do) But that is where I think the buck stops. Ask fans about Webster or Sergio or Telfair in their first year and now and you will get a lot different responses. Start a thread about Blake and see how posters call him ordinary plain vanilla type player. I think that dynamic is saved for the rookies . . . and let me just break this rookie trend and repeat what i have been saying since summer league . . . Bayless is not a PG and he does not fit in with this team because Blazers have more than their share of scoring SGs in Roy and Rudy.
The only time I ever saw anything from Brandon regarding Jerryd was during Jason Quick's "Rip City Revival" series back in the summer http://blog.oregonlive.com/behindblazersbeat/2008/07/part_iii_roy_and_bayless_a_mat.html Now you tell me where Brandon said it'll take a while for the team to convert Bayless into a point guard, or where Bayless not being a pure 1 is a problem.
He made this comment during Media day. "You can tell Jerryd is more of a natural SG" is the exact quote from that short clip they showed on Ch. 8.
We wont need Bayless to ever be a pure PG. He needs to learn to play without the ball, like Blake does, and just let Roy handle the PG duties. All we need Bayless to be, is to hit the outside shot, play defense, get to the foul line. And those skills are pretty much what he already has.
Even then how does Jerryd being a defensive 1 and an offensive 2 make him incompatible with this team; isn't that the role that Blake plays a lot of the time to great success opposite of Brandon?
As the more detailed comment Nikolokolus posted shows, Roy is extremely positive about Bayless being more of a 2 on offense and able to defend point guards. And I think Roy is exactly right. Roy and Bayless combined have as much distribution ability as a "classical" point guard and shooting guard. And Bayless is perfectly suited to defend point guards, while Roy is perfectly suited to defend shooting guards. Wherein lies the problem?
KP has never shown any interest in Conley. KP did not try to land Conley, and in fact said at the time we would not pursue Conley because he did not fit with our future core players even though he was a friend of Greg's. Conley would not have even been drafted at all if not for his famous teammates, and has been overachieving IMO.
Neither has exceptional court vision, both look for their own shot first, and second. Roy has a definite half-court mentality and monopolizes the ball which kills off-ball player movement. Neither is a good perimeter defender.
I'll give you credit Maris, when you're in the mood to speak fallacies you go balls out and pile them up.
Overreact how? You called out my post count as if because I don't post often here, it obviously shows my lack of knowledge, or my inability to make a generalization. I don't see an overreaction, or an attempt to be witty. What was your mentioning my post count an attempt at? To show superiority because of your higher post count? Please help me understand what I need to do to make the genaralizations I have made, without getting called out for my noobness.
