Somebody has to value his services (which are not needed any longer). He's got a reasonable $$ per year (but now with 3 additional years.) How about SJax and Maggette ($19M) for LaFrentz ($16M) and change? Marbury (yeah dream on right)? Marion?
Marion would be the only one I'd be interested in, but I don't think Jackson is going anywhere. Plus, I don't know why Miami would be interested in trading a large expiring for Stephen Jackson and Cory Maggette with long contracts. Then again, stranger things have happened.
Maggette can be traded 12/15. Azubuike, probably around the same time. Sjax isn't going anywhere, but I think there's a chance we can trade Maggs and Azubuike.
I sound like a broken cd, but if we can trade Mags and Buke, then I'd take a gamble on Tyrus Thomas, Sean Williams, or Josh Boone. If Buke goes, then we can keep Marco. Let's face it. We're not going to get David Lee or a veteran big who can ball.
If we can dump one or two of our "contracts" (Azubuike, Mags, Sjax, Crawford), I wouldn't care what we get in return so long as it means it gives our "youngs" (Wright, Randolph, Marco, Hendrix) a chance to play. If you think about it, all of our "contract" guys not including Monta and Andris, will probably restrict the Warriors to sign either Randolph or Wright to extensions assuming they pan out to be studs. I'd rather commit to the future with potential than to the present with expensive mediocrity.
Don't forget the lottery pick we're going to have. EDIT: Even though I like Turiaf a lot, he's wasted on a lottery team (us). Sorry to be throwing in the towel, but this team is not going anywhere with or without Monta.
I just hope Monta isn't the one to get traded but I keep getting this wierd feeling that he will be shopped when he comes back
Monta leaves only if the Warriors get to dump 2 of 3 contracts in the same deal; SJax/Maggs/Crawford. Its abundantly clear that Maggs/Crawford are just fill ins on losers and SJax is a valuable asset on a winner (not so much on a loser.) I really appreciate what SJax did to lift the W's and wish him the best. But the W's are in rebuilding mode, he hates that, and he's proven to be a tough minded team player when properly motivated. Thus, he's an asset that a contender could really use (Spurs?Heat?Pistons? (I hope.)
How ironic, I almost ran over Stack Jack today at Union Square. He was running across the street. My fiance said, "what's that guy doing?" I said, "that's Stephen Jackson!" "No it's not...it doesn't look anything like him...wait a minute...OMG!" We both waved to him and she said, "sorry for almost running you over." "Oh, it's okay." As I pulled into the parking lot, I yelled, "Hey Stack! Let's win this Friday, okay?" "Yes, sir!" Funny thing, two seasons ago I ran into Baron Davis and told him to get a triple double against the Rockets, who the Warriors play this Friday, and he ended up getting the game winning shot. Let's hope for similar results with Sjax. I'm a sucker. Just because of today, I don't want him to be traded. When we started waving at him, he immediately smiled and started waving back. He really seems to love being loved.
Sigh... You know somebody is doing a 'great' job, when he did something and you want to void his work before ink is dried. Why did we extend Jackson's contract again? There was no good logic behind, and now, instead of attractive two years contract, we made Jackson unattractive 5 years contract, which ends when Jackson is 35 years old. Bottom line is that not many teams want to take sizable 5 years contract unless they are also dumping a long term contract or really getting a bargain like Biedrins or Monta. Jackson may be a decent value for what he is getting right now, but he won't be when he is 35 years old, and Jackson has a history behind and nobody wants to hold onto a time bomb for next 5 years old. Then, there is Rowell's side. He just gave Jackson a contract, and I seriously doubt that he will dump Jackson unless he will get something significant in return. And, that's not happening either. It's really frustrating to see how Rowell completely killed this team in just couple months. If he wanted to win now, he should have kept Davis especially when the price was decent. If he wanted to rebuild, he should have never commit to Maggette, Jackson and Crawford. I mean, some teams completely abandon two years to jump into 2010 FAs. We had enough cap room to be a player in 2010 FA, and Rowell wasted it. Because after abandoning Davis for whatever the reason, he tried to win in 2008-09, when it was pretty obvious that this team will not make PO in 08-09 season. Rowell's little stunts ruined our financial flexibility, we are stuck with number of unattractive contracts, and we won't see caproom till 2013...
I think everyone had some semblance of hope before Monta got injured, including Rowell. If you think about it, Monta really screwed up THIS season. Everything else, I'd have to agree, Rowell et al made some horrible financial decisions that gives us no flexibility. Anyone would be a fool to take on any one of our new contracts.
Rowell isn't even on the same page as Isiah. He's probably never even touched a basketball. How can you be the Team President of an NBA team when you can't even dribble a basketball? Rowell's a joke, and so is this team as long as he's Cohan's little pet chihuahua. Read this from Kamakazi's Nov.1 blog: I mean, who is this guy anyway? He's just single-handedly allowed/orchestrated the following: 1. Losing Baron 2. Botching the relationship with Monta Ellis 3. Allowing the trade of a draft pick for Marcus Williams, and then not extending him, thus losing the pick for NOTHING 4. Giving Stephen Jackson a senseless extension, as Kwan describes above 5. Hitting the panic button and spending cash senselessly on Maggette because he was worried about "looking bad" to the NBA fraternity 6. Trading Harrington for Crawford. I don't mind the trade on paper, but it's a win-now trade, which any NBA authority would say is the wrong choice for the Warriors right now. They have tns of young potential and nearly ZERO chance of making playoffs. Suddenly, GS goes from being young nucleus with attractive prospects and tons of caproom, to veteran starters with unattractive contracts, no chance of making PO, no caproom for summer of 2010, and prospects wasting away on the bench. Go Warriors.
You forgot to mention Rowell fired Mully's right-hand man, signed Nelson to an extension thus enabling Nellie to orchestrate Larry Riley into the asst GM position (actually, I don't really buy this, but I'll go along with the speculation) and thus backstabbing his "long-time player/friend" Chris Mullin, the saving face of the franchise.
This is exactly the front office mess that is causing us Warriors fans the grief. You can disagree with any of the points I make below because I don't have any solid evidence for it, but there has to be people behind the big decisions being made this season.. 1. When someone mentions Rowell, I assume they mean Cohan, too. Rowell isn't a basketball person and I think Rowell was hired to oversee the entire operation for Cohan and look after his interests -- MONEY. 2. The front office decides the DIRECTION of the team. Whoever they hire as basketball operations, usually the GM, and subsequently the coach, are the people who determine the makeup of the team now and in the future. Barring unforseen circumstances, the President or whatever title Rowell has, does not step in (especially against the GM) unless it was something IMPORTANT. Lo and behold, that's exactly what happened here and it caused huge repercussions against the fan's interests. That was Baron Davis. For whatever reasons, Davis was not in Rowell's/Cohan's plans for the future even though it was in Mullin's. 3. Today, we have a lame duck Mullin, who will be out next season. We also have Riley and Nelson. Why fire Mullin's assistant unless he's not going to be here? Second, Mullin's been awfully quiet about the situation, even though he did help engineer the Harrington/Crawford trade. 4. So does Rowell step in as the basketball operations guy and Riley is his assistant? Rowell says that he wanted SJax extended and that is what happened. My point is whether it's Rowell or Nelson/Riley, the present and future looks pretty dim for us fans .
