Typical East Coast bluster and homerism. http://www.boston.com/sports/basket...rtunity_to_beat_them_has_come_gone/?page=full Boston fans.
Any of you guys remember the year when Boston (Bird era) had only one loss at home, and it was to the Blazers. IIRC, it was a thrashing too. That would be nice to see something like that again. Found it: Fri, Dec 6, 1985 Boston was 17-2 . Blazers won 121-103. Boston is now 17-2! Destiny?
Ugh ... I can't stand Boston fans. Things were much better when the Red Sox were the Yankees' bitch, the Patriots were mired in mediocrity, and Rick Pitino was talking about Bird, Parish and McHale "not walking through that door." Now they all think they are God's gift to sports. -Pop
If it makes you feel better, I despise the Patriots. BTW the Bruins are second in the NHL's eastern conference.
Personally, I love the quote. If the Blazers needed some motivation for the game tomorrow, they just got it. At least most writers and teams give the Blazers some respect; in this case, not. Paste it up in the locker room and then quietly go to business beating the Celtics, I don't care if it is by a lot or a little, just beat 'em. Gramps...
Yea it is an old saying that has to do with destroying tomato cans. Basically, it is disrespect, as it is saying they are going to run over Portland easily.
I thought the tomato can reference was that all other teams are alike - Cleveland, Portland, LA, mighty Celtics will beat them all. Or somesuch crap. Whatever, hope the Blazers beat their asses.
Tomato can N. In a fight, someone who is terribly outmatched by their opponent, and gets beaten quite easily, with no glory going to the victor. The president of the chess club was little more than a tomato can when he picked a fight with the captain of the wrestling team. http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=tomato can
If the Celtics have the same mentality as this douche bag, Portland's going to walk in there and steal this one. I'm pretty certain the Celts respect Portland a lot more than this.
Yes. It's usually the people who have nothing to do with a teams success, but seem to think they do, (like journalists or fans) who talk the most shit. We're all guilty of it. This hack is probably living his life vicariously through the Celtics, so he's feeling invincible at the moment.
