It is not slow. It does use more memory. Basically it comes down to this. If you don't do your research and specify the hardware on your box to handle your OS, of course you are going to be dissappointed. But the only one fucking yourself, is yourself. Do your research and build your box to handle the software running on it, and you won't be dissappointed.
Please, I set up computers all the fucking time. This computer is more than adequate to handle it. Intel Core 2 Duo 1.60Ghz with 4GB of Ram. It came loaded with Vista, it was not an upgrade to an existing system nor do I feel like "building my own box". Vista is very user unfriendly and is a total failure of an operating system. The browsers keep on having strange errors and I suspect its due to their stupid security settings. I need to disable all the bloatware. I've been exceedingly satisfied with XP, but Vista is a turd with wings.
That is your opinion. I have had Vista running very stable and fast from about 2 months after it was out and the drivers were all brought up to snuff. Secondly everybody has to tweak the UI for their own likings. If you like the XP interface, then if you know so much about computers then go in and turn off the the UAC security prompts and turn the UI to Windows XP style and it will be just like you remember XP being like. Unfortunately, instead of going out and learning something about the product you just bought, you would rather just go bitch about it.
How would I learn about that without people telling me about that? ESP? My view shared by many considering how poor their sales and conversion rate is, and is why Windows 7 is already on the way hopefully next year. I'm not going to waste my time on learning this OS when a new one is coming next year, this is just a work computer I'm setting up for myself.....my personal PCs, I'm only using XP until I see how Windows 7 is. Microsoft, while it does has some good offerings is a fucking retarded company. Their products are shit, especially their online offerings like their Windows Live ID, their online storage (Sharepoint) and other crap. I do like their phone OS though and XP...their online stuff and vista? wack.
My experience is that with DEP being on by default - Vista's stability is really dependent on the quality of drivers you install - a lot more so than XP was. I have multiple boxes of Vista running in a virtual machine and they are working just fine - but on my communication desktop - with some unique hardware - it is not nearly as stable. Personally, the only thing Ireally love about Vista over XP is the built-in search - it is tons better than what you get from XP. Everything else I do not need much.
What saved you $290? I bought an Office 07 upgrade in a "digital locker" last year. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_locker
Still getting a cookie error on MSHIT's side of things. http://thevistaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=16273 same error...I cleared all cookies, tried two different browsers trying to get my fucking download link. they are so retarded.
also tried this a while back, it was incredibly backwards to use...... http://workspace.officelive.com/ while I got it set up and running, it was so flimsy and strange, I just stopped.
I've got vista home 64bit and have never once had a problem involving vista. Which is really quite outstanding considering all the shit I heard about it from a lot of friends. But not one problem since June (which is when I got it).
I saw those all the time on a brand new system: quad core w/ 8G RAM, SLI MB, Nvidia Graphics card. Don't see them anymore since: http://kubuntu.com But I do run vista in a virtual machine (virtualbox ose)
If you spend any amount of time in front of a computer at all it's worth the money to switch to a Mac. The computing experience is superior in every way.
Man, IDK, Vista 64BIT at my house is pretty damn nice.....I never have problems with it, but I do work in this industry for a living so I know how to configure it as to get rid of all the extra "filler" that came pre-configured with it... I'd say, Vista 64 Bit, is pretty damn solid...
