So, what, now you're banning people because they barely speak English? Man, you guys just continue to out-do yourselves.
You guys go on about "good intent" and all that, but when it comes down to it, you're just banning people because they disagree with you and annoy you. With stuff like this going on regularly, it's no wonder people are leaving in droves. You can all run the board how you like, but at least be up front about it.
We don't ban people because they annoy us or disagree with us. I didn't ban Himuki, didn't OK his banning, didn't disagree with his banning, I had absolutely nothing to do with that. How about thinking about all the reasons why Himuki could have possibly been banned? Think outside the box, champ. Open your mind a little.
I am just discovering this thread. First, I am responsible for War Poet being banned, so perhaps I should just be banned and he should be reinstated. Denny made a point of telling (and showing) me in a PM that the game threads on the Nets site were getting out of hand and needed to be better moderated. You'll note that the red marks in the thread with all the post deletions started with one of my posts. On Denny's behalf, I went off the wall to bitch at the mods for their inaction. To prove I was wrong, War Poet immediately edited my post. Because my complaint was out of character, and because war poet and GMJ are friends of mine, it quickly turned into a little game of how fast we could post complaints and how fast war poet could delete them. Just a silly fun little game to pass the time (but the original point was still valid, partly because it wasn't directed solely at war poet, but all the Nets and global mods). As a result of this, war poet was banned, and i wasn't, of course. I feel horrible about it, because he is a good kid, responsible, likable, and smart, and he was punished because he was my friend. Regardless, I've noticed that there is a thread on the Blazers forum with a title that references oral sex. I'm surprised that a thread like that is permitted to show up on the home page. Isn't that what led to the creation of the "mature" forum, so that Kid Chocolate's similarly-titled threads would not appear on the home page? Why hasn't that thread been moved or deleted--or at the very least, the thread title edited?
The thread in the Blazers forum is about Charles Barkley's arrest. Your post about the mods' inaction was spot on, so it seems a little weird to be standing up for one of those inactive mods at this point. You had nothing to do with any of what went on, but you do have something to do with what goes forward.
It seems to me that the thrust of the thread is irrelevant to the issue of whether the phrase "oral sex" should be in the title, to be plastered on the home page. Are you saying that I can use crude terminology to title a thread so long as it is an actual news story? Give me a few minutes; I'm sure I can find a legitimate news story that I can describe using the word "fuck" or "shit." I find it hard to believe that would be acceptable. I'm sticking up for war poet because he apparently would not have been banned had I not instigated things. I would think that it would have been more appropriate to "retrain" the Nets mods--or demote them to regular users--then to ban them for not doing the job you expected.
Feel free to start your "Obama is an asshole" thread if you like. Public figures have always been fair game. I repeat, you had nothing to do with what happened with #1WP, it was a long time coming regardless of our ability to "retrain" him.
The thread in question is NOT titled "Barkley arrested while seeking oral sex." It just says, "All for Oral sex." Oh, wait, I see someone changed the title of the thread. Thanks, although a simple, "I'll take care of it" would have sufficed.
For your benefit. You'll note we're keeping our link to ND in our Nets forum. We wish you guys all the best over there, we appreciate all the good things that have come from our relationship with ND, the posters that came to us from there, and if a Nets-only message board is what people want then we're happy to send people over there.
on-line communities are like towns; they all have their own personalities and culture. One doesn't replace another; they can all coexist.
Main Event, JE: Like it or not, you guys are going to be held responsible for the actions of your admins. It's part of being associated with the leadership of the site, and if you're not comfortable with that, you probably should make that known to Denny.
