In this thread, I want to collect all evidence against the Memphis Grizzlies which proves that they are signing Miles in bad faith to cripple Portland's cap room situation this summer. I'll put this on a blog eventually maybe...send it around Blazers nation or whatever and beyond.

well, pull together our resources. I am having someone do their research on Wallace, his transactions, etc.
Please put requests for her research here. thanks!

If this goes further with Memphis, I'll compile this as a PDF/booklet...maybe someone can hand them out at the RG! hah.

April 14, 2008: Blazers request waivers on Miles.

August 22, 2008, the Celtics signed Miles to a non-guaranteed contract,[6] and expected him to fight for a roster spot at training camp. He worked out twice with the team and impressed with his health and attitude,[7] but was waived on October 20, 2008.

December 13, 2008, Miles signed with the Memphis Grizzlies. However, he sat out his first ten games of the regular season for violating the league's substance abuse policy.

January 4, 2009, Miles made his season debut with the Grizzlies, playing the last 1:46 in a 102-82 win against the Dallas Mavericks.

January 7, 2009 after only collecting 2 rebounds and 2 blocks in 9 minutes over two games, Miles was waived by the Grizzlies.

January 9th, 2009: Miles resigned by Memphis Grizzlies.

Well, I'll start with the opposite I suppose. Not that they have a good use for him, but I have already seen some people say, well, why cut him. Please. You're smarter than that. You cut him to make sure he is non-guaranteed. No worries there. Give him 2 10-days, see how he does, and go from there. Then go the rest of the season. Happens ALL the time.

That being said, I'm already hoping we sue the shit out of them somehow and win. I hope we have some secret email knowing they were being underhanded about it. I hope we already showed it to Stern, too. Better yet, I hope we go all 1960's USA on them, and pull the Cuban Missile Crisis evidence shit on them. AHA! We have correspondence explicitly showing all you wanted to do was make a mockery of our team, the system, the league, te CBA, and poor, poor Darius, who is only trying to feed his family. I dunno why. I almost want to relish people not liking us. Other fans, etc. Fuck 'em. Nobody cares anyways, in the end. I don't want to be everyone's "darling", hey, yay for them team. I want us to pull of a big trade with RLEC, and go on to fuck the league, and team's in their collective asses for the next 10 years. I want to make them bleed like it's their first time. Extreme? Fuck 'em. All's fair in love and basketball? Good. Maybe not today. Maybe not tomorrow. But soon. And for the rest of their lives!! Nobody likes a winner. Well good. Hate us. And Fuck You. Our owner is richer than you. Our GM is smarter than you. Our better is better than you. Fuck you. Game. Blouses. I'm done. I'm going to go down to Larry Miller tomorrow and shake his hand, and say as a season ticket holder, I love, LOVE what he has done, am behind him 100%, and support him fully. Hopefully he is at the game. Usually is. A lot of times down shaking hands with people outside his entrance, so will hopefully get to see him and say good job. Fuck the NBA. BRING IT ON. PDX just threw it down, and I dunno why, but I'm giddy over it. You think a player is going to seriously consider that when signing here? No. He'll think about 2 things. Money and titles. Al Davis is a piece of shit. How many people don't sign there. Nobody likes Steinbrenner. Doesn't seem to hurt him. Fuck this shit. Everything's coming up Portland Bitches!!

I feel like this is going to be hard to prove either way. The Grizzlies only saw 9 minutes of him- not exactly the amount you'd want a guaranteed contract for. The release/re-sign makes sense from that perspective. At the same time, if they really are doing it to hurt the Blazers, it would make sense. I guess it just depends on how he plays with them and how many games he sees action in. If he plays 20-25 games at 6-10 mpg, I don't think our argument holds any water.

I found it very weird when Memphis signed Miles a day after Darius worked out for the Clippers.

Maybe KP rejected a trade from Memphis and Chris Wallace has some sort of grudge?

Either way, the bridge between Memphis and Portland is now burned.

maybe nothing...but once we do reach that game #10 and it looks like Memphis is just screwing with Portland, the flood gates will open. Hopefully we can collect enough to put up a nice blog post somewhere...article submission, etc.

First Memphis gives Gasol to LA for a box of CrackerJacks. Then, they screw Portland out of cap room. It's quite obvious that Memphis is acting in accordance with the Lakers.

I've always maintained Portland was stupid to extend Miles, dumber to waive him, that of course he can still play and they were idiots to think he wouldn't, and they should nut up and honor his contract.

I hate parasites like Paul "Bankruptcy" Allen who use technicalities to avoid honoring their word.

    Gives Portland a bad rep.

I knew they wanted Travis badly in the summer, and we wouldn't give him to them. It was like Travis and our first-rounder for Mike Miller.

Chris Wallace also has a tie to Boston, in that he was a former GM. Don't know what the link is to Miles in Boston though, but it's something.

True. It will depend on what happens after the 10-day contracts expire. If Memphis wants to play him, it's their decision.

I will say that there is no way Miles is in Memphis next year on a guaranteed contract. I'll take bets on that right now.

They had him for a month of practice and deemed him worthy of garbage time after his suspension.

This was a calculated move by Memphis. I can't wait for the lawsuit, and KP is "dejected" because he isn't involved in the business aspect of the team and knows that this may affect his ability to improve the roster.

I hope the same thing, but after watching and listening to Pritchard today, I really don't think we have an ace up our sleeve. But it'll sure be fun suing those bitches! Really, fuck Jerry West, and fuck Memphis. I wish only misery, failure and heartache on their franchise from here to eternity. But I'm not bitter or anything.

Maris, you usually make good points. Sometimes extreme, but I often agree. Here, though, you fail. Why should Portland honor its contract when Miles neglected to do the same? Here's a guy who could have owned the city. Everyone loved him after his first half-season here. Yet, he was often aloof off the floor, lazy on it, and bitched and moaned here, there, and everywhere after he collected his contract. If he couldn't "dance" for a contract he never deserved, why should Portland management honor it?

Paul Allen may give Portland a bad name. But guys like Wallace, Wells, Rider, and Miles give it a far worse name.
