http://realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/56780/20090123/phil_to_retire_after_09_10_season/ i just hope he wins his 10th (and 11th haha) ring before he retires... bring in Byronn Scott!!!
He hasn't said he's going to retire. I saw the interview, he was asked about his future and responded by saying Buss wants him to sign him long term, but he just wants to take it one year at a time.
I think Rambis is next in line if he doesn't get a head coaching job somewhere else first. Option B would be Brian Shaw. Personally I would like to see Jeff Van Gundy replace PJax on the Laker bench when the time comes.
If Phil leaves, what happens to the triangle if, let's say we hire Byron Scott or JVG? Do we just scrap it and start on something new? I'd rather have Shaw than Rambis btw, I love B-Shaw. Maybe by the time Phil retires Derek Fisher will be an assistant. lol. Change the title btw, he never said he was going to retire.
I'm fine with either Rambis or Shaw, and I wouldn't be surprised if Fisher joins the coaching staff once he retires.
Assuming the roster is intact then I think they'd still run the Triangle. If PJax retires it doesn't mean the entire coaching staff is going to be replaced. JVG could be head coach and allow Rambis, Shaw or both to be responsible for the offense, while he teaches our team how to play lockdown defense.
