I don't know why Varner would quit. He wasn't going to get knocked out, IMO. He had taken Cerrone's best shots and I think he was clearly winning the fight and was on his way to a decision victory. I don't know how that one judge had it in favor of Cerrone. Even Cerrone looked surprised when that was read out loud.
I agree. Varner was definitely winning the fight, but he was also losing steam and Cerrone was still going strong.. benefit of training with GSP IMO This fight has rematch written all over it. Hopefully Cerrone will have learned a little take down defence or how to move his head when huge looping overhand rights are raining down on you.
As the fight progressed Varner's takedowns were purely for scoring points. As soon as it hit the mat Cerrone was looking for subs when Varner was only trying to kill time and throw a couple of downpunches. Some judges, like Cecil Peoples, and possibly Nelson Hamilton, aren't enamoured with wrestlers. That being said, I thought Varner won every round but the last.
$7500 bonuses were passed out to Jose Aldo (KO of the night), Urijah Faber (submission of the night), and Varner/Cerrone (fight of the night). I dunno about Faber's bonus--Jorgensen's submission was better.
All im sayin is this, Verone was obviously getting tired and Cerrone looked fresh as a fuckin daisy. I think Varner was winning the fight but by a small margin because all he really did in the 2nd through 5th round was take him down to score points yet nothing really pivotal happened. In the 5th Cerrone was just about to unleash some ground and pound of his own and finish the fight. Varner tried to stand up YET he crumpled to avoid the knee and loose the fight. As soon as he realized it was an "illegal blow" he acted as if he was blind and he couldn't even move. The ref said it was UNINTENTIONAL IM NOT TAKING A POINT... as soon as Varner heard that he immediately said I CANT SEE, OHHH FUCK I CANT SEE!!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME?? Watch the replay the knee GRAZED his head!!! Am i the only one in this forum that knows when a guy is faking??? He apologized and said he was better than that because he realized what he had just done!!! This is the same guy that stopped a fight cause his mouthpiece was knocked out when truthfully he was just ROCKED and trying to recover! Its fucked up and the WEC is fucked up for not recognizing this! Varner is and will always be a bitch. You're a joke. Were you on the receiving end of that knee? No. You have no idea how the fuck it felt. Often times grazing blows are the ones that do the most damage in terms of opening cuts and shit. A grazing knee to the eyeball can cause some severe damage. Cerrone was about to unload some severe ground and pound? Really? You don't know that, you can't predict the future. So what, he spit his mouth piece out. You know how many fighters in MMA and Boxing have done that? It's a ploy to get more time. Is it unsportsmanlike, yeah, but until they start enforcing a rule against it, I think fighters should be able to utilize that advantage if they want. Varner was in control of the fight, he was up on the judge's cards, and had taken Cerrone's best blows. I don't think he was in any danger of being knocked out, but you never know. It is fighting, shit happens in fighting and calling Varner a bitch or whatever is just ridiculous. Until you get in that cage and take the punishment of a fight, shut the fuck up. And calling the WEC the new WWE is the most retarded thing I've ever read. The WEC has been the most consistent organization for awesome fights out there.

Cerrone wasn't going to unleash any thing when he had Varner on the ground.Both times Cerrone took him down Varner wall walked right back up. It's true that Cerrone was pushing for a finish near the end and Varner's "I can't see" thing is sketchy but in all honesty Varner probably would of ended up winning that decision. The way the match ended probably works out a lot better for Cerrone cause he gets an instant rematch againist Varner.
so umm one guy used alleged dirty tactics and the WEC is shit... overreact much? it's possible he faked it, but I think it's unlikey. He was a couple of minutes away from winning the decision. If this had been say the 3rd round, then yeah it's more likely, but near the end of a fight he was clearly winning? I just don't see it. That said, I don't know the guy personally, don't know his integrity.. maybe he is that smart. Once you tell a doctor that you can't see, they have to stop the fight. He knew the knee was a foul so with a broken hand and foot and no gas tank, he may have seen an easy way out. I think Varner apologized because after 4 and a half hard fought rounds of a great fight, it's a shitty way to win/lose and it's a shitty ending for fans.
