I actually just learned it was tomorrow, and which teams are playing. Lost interest, or more correctly, the time to follow 3 sports, around when Montana retired. Maybe that's who Sergio reminds me of. I watch all the Blazers games, and some fall MLB, and sometimes a Superbowl, or college basketball finals to see the draft prospects. That's all I have time for. Steelers and Cards, right?
Could be a great weekend for sports. Blazers beat the Jazz, Cards destroy the Steelers and Nadal proves his number 1.
Have to admit I'm not super excited about this year's game... On the other hand, I am kind of excited about this History of the Super Bowl I recently wrote for work... take a look if you're interested; I'd love to know what you think. http://www.shmoop.com/analysis/history/us/history-of-the-nfl/analytic-lenses-culture.html SR
Nice article! I always thought Mean Joe Green threw the kid a towel. Your article made me go back and re-watch. The commercial (on YouTube) matched my memory, but I had just interpreted what was on his shoulder as a towel, before. Clearly his jersey, though. Minor detail, but cool to "discover" that anyway. The Paul McCartney quote is interesting, too. Didn't he perform at the Olympics?
Thanks guys! I love that Mean Joe Greene commercial... although I can't believe they turned it into a made-for-TV movie. I'd love to see that! I also think the Farrah Fawcett/Joe Namath shaving cream ad is pretty priceless; Super Bowl ads have definitely come a long way...
I'm at home watching the kids and the game while the wife is out with her family and female friends at a fish restaurant.
but they can root for a team that is in their same division? I guess beating up on a team for so long makes you a little soft huh?
^^ Of course I can root for a team in our division. It will make beating them next year that much better, beating the defending Super Bowl champs is never a bad thing.
I would never root for the Chargers, Chefs (great googaly moogaly) AND WILL NEVER EVER ROOT FOR THE RAIDERS NO MATTER WHAT. Even if I knew someone on the team or if my kid ends up playing for them. NEVER.
I really cant stand the Steelers, never liked any other their players, ugly jerseys, helmet, colors, ugh I'm kinda heated right now..had a few friends/fam who are Cards fans and they haven't won crap so it would have been nice to see them win one. Also, Pitt cheated the hawks out of the SB 3 yrs ago..and they don't even play Dennis Dixon. /soapbox
Loved the game. It was epic. I was rooting for the Steelers, but didn't care a TON either way. I like guys on both teams so it was pretty switch. Also, I predicted 31-24 in one of my classes, so I wasn't too far off.
It doesn't matter whether or not you had skin in the game, if you love football, it was an epic Super Bowl.
