we were trading a bad contract for another bad contract (zach for francis). we currently have no bad contracts and arenas has the worst contract in the league.

Gilbert's contract arguably is the worst in the NBA right now. too many years, too many dollars, too many knee injuries in the past two years.

Talk about picking up an albatross.

I thought you meant we aren't trading for Arenas becuase there is no way the Blazers take on Arenas (and his big contract).

You're right, Arenas has to have some trade value out there . . . even with that contract.

    Two words: medical retirement

Blazer pick him up with Butler, declare Arenas medically retired and let insurance pay Arenas' contract . . . what could go wrong?

I'm pretty sure KP wouldn't bring a player (Arenas) here when he knows the fans would literally laugh him out of the building for his idiotic disrespect of us in the past.

22 million dollars/yr through 2013-14? That is 5 1/2 more years of his act. If I am Washington i think hard about it. There are maybe 2-3 owners that would trade for that contract right now.

Like I said before, some team would be willing to take Arenas if they wanted to dump him. They aren't going to need to add Butler to entice another team.

Plus, he'd eat up Sergio's minutes! Darn you, Arenas!

Not hating. It felt like spam. That's not a stretch. Never been to the site. Didn't click on it. I thought it was spam!

Whatever. Regardless of his contract, players like Arenas don't grow on trees. Some contender hopeful will take him knowing the risk and the contract.

I'm not sure why everyone is focusing on Arenas? Butler is the interesting proposition.

no team would take him for expiring contacts/young players.

A straight up dump is for expirings, so, if they wanted to dump him, they can.

no team in the league would take his contract right now unless they were dumping bad contracts themselves.

Hmm.... I'd do it. Would Washington do it? I don't know. You get Butler, which would be HUGE, and you get Arenas (who might come back, you never know).

Please explain your thinking behind this statement.

Says who? Teams in this league are risk takers. If theres a deal in place that will help you win a championship, you do it. When the Nuggets took Billups, they knew they were sacrificing their long term financial opportunities. They still made the deal because they believed it would make them better.

Arenas is still one of the best scoring guards in the league. A team close to contender status will take a chance on him if Washington doesn't want him any more.
