Yea, but he was getting it going in the second half. He had 6 points before he was taken out, never to be seen again until it was time to get the offensive rebound for Rudy's intentional miss, before Rudy missed the second.... Ok so much for that plan. Anyhow, that being said, it makes me want to kick Nate in the gnards.
First of all Dallas was scorching hot on offense in the first half ... pretty hard to be a rebounding machine when there are precious few defensive rebounds to grab ... hell he still had a respectable 4 in 21 minutes which isn't "terrible"
I stand by everything I said in that thread. I still believe Oden will be a good player, and maybe even a great one, but right now he blows big time.
The D league is a terrible idea for GO. He still gives you some minutes on nights where he isn't a factor. Who is going to back Joel up if Greg's gone? Besides, Joel is so much more effective when he's rested. He just wears down when he has to play a ton of minutes. It's frustrating to watch Greg stuggle, but he does have his moments. He just doesn't seem to play well against good teams yet or teams with quality bigs. Good thing for us we our next 5 games are against OKL City twice, the Knicks, Warriors, and Grizzlies. Look for a resurgance from Oden.
Frye. He can be far more effective than Greg Oden was tonight. Remember how he played when he started the end of the season?
Oden is 10th in the league in rebound rate, sure it would be nice if he was #1(that's currently Joel btw), but to say he's lucky to grab 4-5 going way to far.
Tonight: G. Oden C 21:00 3-6 0-0 0-0 -14 1 4 1 1 0 0 0 2 6 J. Przybilla C 21:53 0-2 0-0 0-0 +2 2 6 0 2 1 3 1 3 0 We should send them both to the D-League. Lousy, good-for-nothings. START IKE!!!
You're kidding right? We don't need scoring from him? Nah, we don't. What team needs easy INSIDE buckets that open up the court for a team pretty much made of jump shooters outside of Oden and when LaMarcus posts up? Brandon, Rudy, Travis, Sergio, Jerryd, Steve, and even Nicolas can't benefit at all from their man sagging off of them to double Greg. That's just silly! We should continue this trend of ignoring him when he is literally wide open (rewatch the start of the New Orleans game. Greg's man sagged off of him to shadow LaMarcus and Greg was literally wide open - I mean WIDE OPEN waving for the ball right UNDER the basket and he was looked at and then we swung the ball around on the perimeter for a jump shot instead) in the post because the opposing team knows our guards apparently can't see a 7'0 280 pound guy jumping and waving for the ball. There is literally very few things that can go wrong with getting Greg touches on the offense. 1. If it helps him get in rhythm - that's a plus. 2. If it keeps the defense honest - that's a plus. 3. If it actually gets one of our jump shooters a wide open shot - that's a plus. 4. If it gets Greg's foul shots - that's a plus. 5. If it keeps Greg's man on him so they don't double team the penetrator (because that's what they're doing now because it's rare it gets dumped off to him though Jerryd did a good job tonight in the third) - that's a plus. 6. If it helps develops Greg's offensive game at a faster pace than is currently happening? - that's a plus. As for rebounds? Strength and long arms sometimes fail you when you have two-men boxing you out and hanging on you because the other team has a coach that recognizes that other players on the Blazers team rarely help Greg on the defensive glass. Greg has one of the best rebounding rates in the league for a reason - it'd be higher if he got a little help from his teammates sometimes to keep the other team honest in box-outs.
Really? On nights like tonight, the only rebounds he gets are the ones that come directly to him. Most of the time he gets boxed out or doesn't jump quickly enough to get the difficult rebounds.
You said, "We're behind you all the way, Big Fella." And a few weeks later, "But apart from that, no, I don't think the season is lost--but Oden certainly is. He doesn't seem to have a bleeping clue about much of anything... I'm just tired of making excuses for the guy, and his act is getting old." Yeah, way to stand behind him all the way... big fella.
well oden is top 10 in the league in rebound rate, so i'm not sure criticizing his rebounding is the way to go. i also think that oden(and big men in general especially young ones) plays better defense and rebounds better when the team actually gets him involved in the offense.
That's part of the game. Oden has to figure out how to get rebounds despite the defensive schemes used against him. He's stronger than most centers in the NBA, and he has in incredible wingspan. It's about time he figured out how to use those traits to his advantage.
We shouldn't have to get him involved. He should get himself involved. I remember about 6 years ago when Zach Randolph was emerging. He could get 20 & 10 without having a single play run for him. He just get all the garbage. All the put backs. Scored on hustle alone. And grabbed every rebound he could get his hands on. That's what I expected from Greg Oden. I don't need the 20 points but I want him to be able to produce without plays run for him. Grab a fucking rebound. Block a fucking shot. That "rebound rate" is so meaningless. If you watch the games, you see him missing rebounds he should get.
