Kermit Washington and Mychal Thompson's mid-day show in KFXX way back when definately was the golden age of Portland sports talk radio. That show was must-listen every day. They played off of each other perfectly with Kermit being Mychal's straight man and lamenting over the crazy things that Thompson would say. They also KNEW BASKETBALL. They could actually have an intelligent and thought-out discussion over the happenings of a game because they knew what the hell they were talking about.
Mychal Thompson was on a weekday sports show from 12-4pm with two other guys. I was called "The Loose Cannons". It was the only local sports radio I listened too. It was canceled a month ago so now LA has no local sports talk....lame!
Nope, he's a corespondent for Lakers games for the rest of the year....after that I dont know since ESPN will do the local Lakers broadcasts next year BTW. On a side note, holy crap MT is a Bible Thumper
What's wrong with Holton? He knows his ball better than anyone else on the broadcast team and is the only non-homer they have. The only problem is Luftman making him do that dumb "Tell them what they've won" joke every three minutes. You can tell Holton is as annoyed by that routine as everybody else is. I see Holton on ESPN someday myself.
lived in LA for three months last year and that was the only show on any sports talk worth listening to. MT was made to look a little like a fool though but i guess he brought alot of that on himself. sad that they are no longer, like i said enjoyed listening to them even though that vick the brick guy was possibly the most annoying character in sports talk radio. MT and Kermit was what got me into sports radio. classic stuff.
The original "Big Show" was great. I can't believe they kept calling it that after both Mychal and Kermit left. 1080 went SO downhill after that. Nobody at that station knows shit about basketball - in a town where our only professional team is a BASKETBALL team. Mychal and Kermit both know NBA basketball and have connections around the league - and they were funny. Ah... the good old days. Best of luck to Wheels. I probably won't get to tune in often due to my work schedule, but I wish him well. He deserves it. BNM
Couldnt agree with you more. Vic the Brick would wipe Kobe's ass if Kobe asked. He was over the top optimistic. Cant stand him...he is the reason Im not too bummed about local sports radio gone. get the picture?
A Michael Holton and Tony Luftman radio show would be ridiculously sick. Tony: Tell them what they won Michael: A hoop game lol
Anyone remember that douchebag that was on sports radio back in the late 90's early 2000's here in town on 910? He would never shut up about the Raiders. What was his name?
