What the shit? Aside from the fact I mentioned the possibility of Collins a while back, I find it pretty unlikely that he'd stay one one more week, make huge deals, or not, to change the course of things, and then leave or be fired. Unless, I guess, they're doing something he strongly disagrees with and just want to make him a patsy.

I dunno... I'm not surprised he might resign since he hasn't looked like he enjoyed his job in two years, but the timing is very odd. So I'm chalking it up to BS at the moment.

    Counting down the hours.

VDN would have been a good choice for GM before the season, but now he's been too close to the players to be effective in that role. He's not a bad 1st time coach, but he's not a highly qualified NBA coach or really a winner at that position.

Reinsdorf has been uncharacteristically public the past few weeks, which may indicate he's unhappy with the entire situation. It might also be a reason Pax might resign - we don't know how much the two are at odds. It wouldn't be surprising if Reinsdorf is pushing for trades Pax doesn't want to make at this point.

Vinnie wouldn't be a good choice to be the Berto Center janitor.

It could be either way. Pax might want to make a move or two Reinsdorf won't approve. Or Reinsdorf might want to do things Pax doesn't.

All I know is the timing of this works against getting anything at all done in the near future. Whether it's true or not.

    Not now, I agree.

His track record as player personnel and talent evaluator for Phoenix is quite good, until D'Antoni left and Kerr took over ;)

Even the guys Phoenix let go turned out pretty good (Joe Johnson), and the ones who didn't (QRich) at least thrived in the system Phoenix had in place.

Isn't that evidence that he was just along for the ride, rather than responsible for the good stuff happening?

That would be in the very least pretty interesting. Let's wait and see.

Compared to Pax's radio broadcasting credentials, I'd say it makes him highly qualified.

Time for this clown to go.

I think he would have resigned last off-season if we didn't luck into the Rose pick.

He's been mentally checked out for a couple years.

He used to be a dopey GM. Now he's just an empty suit.

Time for the book to be closed on this losing GM.

I'd imagine it's all about Ben Gordon. When Reinsdorf refused to pay Ben Gordon what he was worth, you could see Paxson resigning.

I hope that the Amare Stoudemire trade still gets done. If it does for the rumored package (Thomas, Gooden, Simmons, and Sefolosha) then how can you not consider Paxson a great GM?

He'd be leaving a team of:

    PG-Derrick Rose/Kirk Hinrich
    SG-Ben Gordon/Kirk Hinrich
    SF-Luol Deng/Andres Nocioni
    PF-Amare Stoudemire/Andres Nocioni
    C- Joakim Noah/Aaron Gray

Yes, there have been bumps along the way, but a man who puts that team together, if he can, deserves due props.

Re: Vecsey: Pax Out in Bulls Shakeup (Update: Confirmed!)

I bet he got a deal together for Stoudamire that required the Bulls to go over the luxury tax and Jerry nixed it, as he has apparently done before.

To me, Paxson's greatest mistake was talking jib all these years but not drafting the ultimate jib/quality player, Brandon Roy, when he was there for the taking. At least we have Rose now, the best chip we've had since the Jordan era.

I'm not a huge fan of Paxson, but on thing I will say is that this timing does not bode well for the hope of improving the team over the trade deadline.

I expect that Paxson agreed to a Stoudemire trade, and it will go through, and that it's the restrictions Reinsdorf put on Paxson after the trade that forced him to resign. (Such as saying that you can no longer bring back Ben Gordon).

Re: Vecsey: Pax Out in Bulls Shakeup (Update: Confirmed!)

    That's my take too.

I'm not sure about the LT and Reinsdorf. I see pretty much equal possibilities that he was pissed vs. that Reinsdorf was pissed.

I will say that if Collins gets hired, I called it :)

In any case, I think it's pretty lame for this to come to pass at this very moment (amid swirling trade talk and in mid-season) when it's been obvious there have been issues for a while.

I don't know who's responsible for this, but suffice to say neither Pax nor Reinsdorf have covered themselves in glory.

Pax has no one to blame for himself. He signed Noc to a stupid contract. He signed Wallace.

And beyond that, Pax getting mad, or depressed (more depressed?) or whatever and quitting after a botched game is pretty bush and evidence he wasn't cut out for the job in the first place.

This is not a good day to be a Bulls fan.

I think Pax did a decent job and picked up some really good guys but he's been micromanaged since day 1. I think Reinsdorf has got in the way of every trade or signing over the last 4 years.

Reinsdorf has said that he repects and has confidence in Pax but he's not letting him make decisions. The whole Dantoni thing still has me angry. I like VDN a lot and over the last few weeks the team has been playing REALLY good basketball again but they need a big man. You gotta make a trade for a big man.

I feel like him stepping down is just like throwing 4 years in the garbage....unless the Bulls still get Amare.

Of all the moves I thought were going to happen. This wasn't one of them. Not with Reinsdorf saying how much he supports him.
