good win by the beavs tonight, pretty much killing any chance my cougs had at the NIT. the 1-3-1 is something not usually seen in the PX, that and their back cutting offense. my question for beavs fans is, how long will they be able to hold on to robinson?
Certainly longer than Ernie Kent (UO) at this point. I bet the university, alumni, boosters, and Athletic Director Bob De Carolis would give Robinson a stable contract at the end of this season to keep him here. With this going on I bet Oregon State will definitely keep Robinson here and better recruits will keep on coming.
Any Beaver fan who thinks the Duck fans are upset at their success vs the Ducks' failures this year doesn't recognize how badly most Duck fans want Ernie gone. An 0-18 season will spell the rebirth of the Oregon basketball program. With the young talent Oregon has and a new arena nearly ready for opening, the Ducks should have a good shot at a top-level coach. -Pop
Lets just hope that the Oregon Duck freshman will mature after this season. There was a transition for the freshmen and seniors to mold and if obviously didn't click for the 2008-09 season. Chemistry might have been an issue or Ernie Kent didn't know how to work the zone, etc to work with the new freshman. Its obvious something didn't click and there wasn't any game plan for each game since they lost by big margins most games. On the Beavers side. They got some uplifting players that made an impact this year; such as Roeland Schaftenaar, Haynes, S. Tarver, etc. Did you guys read about Kevin McShane who was a walk-on freshman and made the team and already got some press. Interesting story http://blog.oregonlive.com/behindbeaversbeat/2009/02/meet_kevin_mcshane_the_osu_wal.html Heres his profile. http://www.osubeavers.com/sports/m-baskbl/mtt/mcshane_kevin00.html He might make an impact season in 2009-2010. Hes unpolished but I am curious with him next year.
True, but these 8 freshmen (soon to be Sophmores) will have to learn a new system with the new coach. There will be new assistant coaches as well. Will it all work in the first year producing at least 4 pac 10 wins? Perhaps but it will still be a rebuilding year. Oregon State will have a strong Junior (Haynes, Johnson) and Senior(Roeland S., Tarvers, Hampton) core with great improving freshman talent.
If they pull the win over Cal at home then I was at least right on my predictions (7 pac 10 wins). They could possibly beat Oregon on the road with a 50%-50% prediction but its the Ducks house and it will be loud. On the road against USC is possible but unlikely. At UCLA, no chance. With quality wins over Stanford and Cal , the NIT might pick em.
nice win today. i am confident we will win in eugene. but the ducks will rebound next year, they are just super super young.
Beavers have over 1 week to prepare to take on the Ducks in the Pit on March 1st. The Ducks will be energized after beating Stanford on Feb 21st. This will be a tough game as the Ducks will be fired up. Some interesting press already on the Beavers regarding "Winners and Losers: Marching on?" article. http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/basketball/news?slug=jn-winners022109&prov=yhoo&type=lgns I wouldn't be surprised as Craig Robinson will be a choice for Pac-10 coach of the year.
Shoot, I'd be surprised if Coach R isn't coach of the year in the Pac 10. Romar seems like the only competition to me.
Beavers just cracked into the Top 25 Mens College BBall 2009 recruiting class! http://basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=917285 A four star PG and Guard 2 three star Centers. Go Beavs!
Well, Oregon States season is done, probably going to finish 7-11 pac-10, and 13-16 overall. I doubt by now they will make NIT. It was a good season, but things would have been better if they had swept the Ducks.
you didnt expect to make the NIT did you? im hoping maybe, just maybe they make one of those small new tournys
Well, Oregon State made the NIT perhaps because Robinson had some IVY league coach support or respect?
Actually they made the CBI not the NIT. The CBI is just 16 teams and a step down from the NIT. http://www.gazellegroup.com/events/cbi/index_main.htm
