If were getting real technical you can say that Ryan Anderson plays the 3 because he technically starts.
Ryan Anderson has been the starting PF since Yi broke his finger about five weeks ago. The starting SF is usually Bobby Simmons, who got hurt about two weeks ago and was replaced by Trent Hassell. Jarvis Hayes is the backup SF. Vince Carter is the starting SG, although he is utilized as the PG in about half the possessions. One overlooked reason for the development of Devin Harris and Brook Lopez is the unselfishness of Vince Carter. The Nets' difficulties right now stem from their inexperience and lack of depth (partly due to injuries). They were 18-18 when Yi got hurt, and have struggled ever since. With a starting lineup of Brook Lopez, Yi, Carter, Harris, and with their two primary (veteran) reserves Keyon Dooling and Hayes healthy, the Nets have a record of 13-6. Despite the fact that Yi has been mediocre and they've gotten zero production from their starting SF. Think about that for a minute: Everyone expected this team to finish last, and yet when everyone is healthy they are winning 68% of their games. The reason for that is Vince Carter. How anyone wouldn't want him is beyond me. His contract is not terribly unreasonable for what he brings.
Getting Vince would be like having a more experienced Roy Vince carter / Roy PPG 20.8 / PPG 22.7 RPG 5.1 / RPG 4.7 APG 4.9 / APG 5.1 SPG 1.0 / SPG 1.1 BPG 0.4 / BPG 0.3 FG% 0.439 / FG% 0.474 FT% 0.815 / FT% 0.819 3P% 0.393 / 3P% 0.392 MPG 36.5 / MPG 37.5 and whoever is saying that Vince will demand the ball has not watched him play in a long time. I would really like to know when was the last time he led his team on shots taken and for being a cancer for chemistry . The only reason the Nets are hesitating to trade him is because he's a great leader to our young guys and is a big reason why they are developing so fast

Ok that's back in Toronto. He has matured more now. Trust me i watch this guy 82 times a year. He's a different player today as he was back then. People are considering this year to be one of his best years ever.
I agree. The other night I watched him get a triple double. There was no quit in Vince. He was focused. A lot of folks seem to forget that when players get near the end of their career, they start to sense that chance for a ring to slip away, and can play really hard the last few years of their career. Most of the good teams, usually add a few of these players to finish the last few pieces of their team to compete for a championship, and use those types of players to re-shore up their team over the years. Not every god damned player on the team has to be a "Blazer for life". One of the best examples of such is when we picked up Scottie Pippen. How many years did Pip have left in his tank? Even though they weren't the best of his career, they sure as hell were fun to watch him in a Blazer uniform.
I am going to throw this out there, because maybe there is a bit more to this plan than people are thinking. 1. A lot of people are afraid of Vince's contract, because it is big, and has a few years left on it (Up to 3). 2. We initially thought that with RLEC, we would have a shot at a free agent this year, but now we are not, especially if the salary cap is reduced. 3. It so happens that one of the free agents in 2012 is Chris Paul. Another is Derron Williams. Another is Devon Harris. So, if you work the deal, and get Carter, amazingly enough you may have parleyed RLEC into a huge contract that expires the years that all of the above PG are available. Have your ears perked up yet?
I don't understand how Carter wouldn't be an upgrade at SF. We have exactly 2 true small forwards. One is a 19 year old that has flashes of ability in-between long periods of suck. The other is still wearing a boot. The argument that Outlaw is a small forward doesn't hold water. He is only effective as a power forward which is the position he plays most of the time. I don't think Carter is the best option, but he would be a HUGE upgrade. Oh, and the Toronto thing. The reason he wanted out (and many other players have wanted out) is about money. He was paying 60% of his income in taxes in Canada, as opposed to 30% in the US. That is many, many millions of dollars. I can't really blame him a bit for wanting off a loser team that was costing him 3million a year.
Maybe. Maybe not. It all matters who is signed for how much, and who is gone. Vince's contract is quite large. It's kind of hard to do the math when contracts are not signed yet.
Seriously? How is a guy making 15 million a year only paying 30% on his taxes. If he's not paying 50% now he will be.
Yes and no. I believe since he is still a US citizen, and not exempt, he has to pay taxes in both countries. Any tax experts out there to chime in?
He is only paying 50% if his accountant sucks ass. That may be the listed amount, but I don't think many people in his tax bracket actually pay that much. As hasoos said, the real kicker is having to pay taxes twice. Every time you hear about a player going to Toronto you hear about the tax burden. Some players don't mind, other players hate it. Vince was in the second group.
