He was asked how many beers he would have had to drink to trade for Carter. His answer: "many".

Totally. Thorn was whining about Portland insisting on GS's pick, and now the story is the team turned it down. This is damage control for Thorn, who had one job to do at the deadline (trade Carter and free up $25 million in cap space this summer), and instead failed miserably.

I thought I heard KP after the deadline answer a question about how many beers would he have had to drink to trade for VC and he said a lot.

I think the hard reality is that Paul Allen can no longer afford to take on massive salaries. I don't think he is going to go over the luxury tax level again unless that player makes a title almost a sure thing.

Though I think Carter wouldn't be a bad addition, no way he ensures a title. He might have been enough to get over the top in a playoff series, but not much more then that. So I can see KP turning this down for purely financial reasons.

I think much of the NBA, Portland included, will not go over the cap anymore. It seems to me Portland has the team they are going to have for the most part. Any addition will be of the budget veteran type. The free-agents-to-be this summer are going to find themselves taking huge pay cuts if they get signed at all.

Close; nice try but your spelling is too good and if you really want to get people's attention, you have to randomly bold shit like this!

edit: oh hell, bold the WHOLE reply for an even more spectacular effect!!!

He's defended by moderators on here so he isn't going anywhere unfortunately. BUT if the Blazers win in Hou or SA on this upcoming road trip, he has agreed to LEAVE the board for ONE WEEK. Isn't that right Mixum?

There was some interesting stuff on BlazersEdge about Paul Allen's finances and if he can really take on the extra salaries. He'll certainly pay for Roy/LMA/Oden but not for an aging Vince or guys who he thinks won't take them to the next level.

Something worth pondering. The guy is still a multi-billionaire but he's still going to run his business and when the time comes to spend to win a title or improve the team, he's proven he'll do it.

Atlanta one of the worst teams in the NBA? Ok...

I don't think that's true. They're slated to make that much only if Portland exercises their team-option year. If Portland does this, their salary is guaranteed. A team can not now trade for these players until after the July Moratorium either. A team could waive them once they've acquired them via trade, but those contracts are guaranteed.

    Am I right?

Maybe so, but I would rather have the picks. (one certain to be a lotto pick and one maybe)

Serious question: how long do you think we can go with Pryz as our only real center? Joel is most effective when you limit his minutes.

This couldn't have been a real offer simply becuase the Nets don't own a GS 1st round pick, unless you think the Ws are going to make the playoffs. If the Warriors continue to fall in the lottery, it's 2 second round picks.

Even if Portland agreed to take whatever pick the Nets end up getting from GS, is it even possible to trade another teams conditional picks?

they haven't set the 2009-10 cap yet, so we have only guesses where the Blazers are going to be in relation to it or what the MLE will be. Anyone know when the league typically announces this?

Maybe it's this pick they were talking about:
New Jersey receives 2011 Golden State first round pick (lottery protected in 2011, top 11 protected in 2012, top 10 protected in 2013. *If it is not conveyed by 2013, the Nets get second-round picks in 2013 and 2015).

And I don't see why you can't trade conditional picks. You just take over the rights of the conditions of the pick.

Ha! This is the first time I've ever replied to my own post.

Anyways...the more I think about this, the more curious I am. Is there a Mod that can answer my question from the quote above? I'm not trying to start controversy, I'm genuinely interested in the answer.

I'm guessing job security??? Without that blatant troll, there would be too much bliss and harmony here and we can't have that now, can we?
