nate in so many words ( is getting tired of oden) sounds like hes been cleared. doubtful for friday they wanna become a running team but cant cause they cant get defensive stops batum and blake are getting a chemistry nate wants to get it down to an 8 man steady rotation.. playoffs shaky with suns being 2 games back but thinks we are done in round 1 IF we get in. 7th or 8th seed ... no better minny a big big game... need a win quick says we shoulda made a trade theres a blizzard in minny
If nate is getting frustrated and tired perhaps he should look at Blake and Webster returning from injury even with doctors clearance.
- First think Quick said is he's tried of the bitching and moaning from Blazers fans about the team, and says it's funny how the fans have changed their expectations as the season has gone on. He said when the season first started, the goal was to make the playoffs, and that the Blazers are currently the 5th seed. - Sort of speculated that some people in the organization think Oden could play right now if he wanted to. - Nate doesn't like being called a defensive coach. He considers himself an all-around coach. - Quick was asked why hasn't Nate made adjustments on defense and Quick said, "good question, I don't know". - The team is trying to run more. Blake is trying to push it but since the Blazers can't play defense it's a lot tougher to try and run. Extra
Make all the adjustments on defense you want to. The facts are about 4 players on the team can defend, and unfortunately 2 of them can't score to save their life.
well he's doing a good job of getting rid of his defensive reputation with how the team has played this season.
you cant ask a team to be something there not.... the blazers are a team full of bad defenders and streaky jump shooters. and what the hell happened to rudy? god he looks bad out there
Quick said the fans need to be patient because this team is growing but it isnt' realistic to expect them to go from out of the playoffs to a top 4 seed in one year, which some fans are saying. I agree with that...
Oden can take all the time he wants as long as we have frye in the middle being our top scorer nothing can stop us!!
I really feel for Nate here, I think he should resign because it's clearly apparent that the front office hasn't given him the players to work with.
I don't get it. Phoenix and GS both run and never get defensive stops. I think Nate is using that as an excuse so he doesn't have to run. If Oden is cleared he needs to play period. I have no problem with him sitting due to injury, but if he's not hurt then play.
Surely. But I think it is quite realistic to look at players who have been here 3 or 5 years, and who haven't improved (especially on the defensive end) and recognize where there is a hole on the team and fill it, while you have a golden ticket? Most of the people who were asking for this to happen, had the goal of making the playoffs, not the "Paul Gasol trade making Portland a contender" scenario. They just want to make the fucking playoffs. That is it. From my point of view, those who continue to say "bake it" are in denial about some players improvement and continue to ignore how long they have been in the league just because the team age overall is young. That logic is flawed. Players roll into the league with less experience who are better all the time. It's one thing to get a new player in, and see the talent that is there that just needs to be polished. It's a total different thing to turn a player with no talent other then athletic skill into a good basktball player. I see players come into the league and work their buts off on their game, adding weight to their frame so they can take (and deal out) the physical abuse to play at a high level. Then I watch Sergio Rodriguez come in year after year and not have put on any muscle at all, and continue to be physically dominated. I watch Travis Outlaw come into camp and fail Nates physical, and he has remained skinny and not improved his frame in order to take the abuses of NBA play despite the fact he plays PF on most nights. If you watch him off the ball on defense he often gets thrown around like a rag doll in the middle of a tornado, arms flailing out, scrapping to try and hold position against stronger players. Look at Roy and Aldridge. They filled out their frame, added muscle, brought their physicality to another level so they can compete. Joel Pryzbilla the same. Remember Jermaine Oneal, he was 205 at the most when he came into the league. 2 years later he was 240 and still filling out.
Bingo. Nate has never liked to run, it wasn't until management in Seattle forced him to do so which made that team a playoff team. And isn't this guy supposed to be a defensiev guru? It's not our players, it's the schemes and philosophy that is completely off.
The Sonics' 50 win team under McMillan didn't run, either. It was near the bottom of the league in pace.
Defensive coach, offensive coach, all around coach, who gives a shit?????? Nate needs to improve his rotations, stop taking out hot players, and get these guys to work on their free throws in practice. Those three little things could win us another five games this year. I'm going to stay away from him coaching D or providing an O but damn atleast see when Batum is killing it and in a zone, don't pull him out. Same for Bayless and any other Blazer doing well.
Phoenix and GS both run and never get defensive stops - and they win fewer games than us as a result. Failing to see your point?
