Let's get back to the subject at hand please... Oden needs to get scoped to remove the fragment from his knee. This much is clear. Now that we have that settled...what hospital do you think the procedure should be performed at?
Me thinks he needs to go to those same Indian healing waters (eastern Oregon) that Bill Walton dipped himself into. LOL!
For someone jumping on posters because they aren't doctors and don't know what they are talking about, then you make that comment. If I had seen Oden's MRI results, I would spew them all over this site as I am not under any doctor patient privledge or subject to privacy laws. Are you a lawyer?. . . then stop making opinions about the law . . . kind of annoying isn't it . . .
That isn't allowed. But the poster in question didn't say "Fuck you" or anything. He said "Shut up" and emphasized it with an obscenity, which is the typical use of an obscenity...amplifying a statement. "Shut up" is allowable, so amplifying it via an obscenity is also allowed. It was the equivalent of "REALLY shut up."
I don't think there's any rule against that. A poster can tell another person not to give their opinion, but that person doesn't have to listen. Saying "Go away," "stop posting" or "shut up" are all rude, but none of them need be obeyed.
Ok, so I can tell a poster or mod for that matter, as long as it's not mod duties of course, to shut the fuck up or to stop fucking posting if I don't like their opinion or whatever. They don't have to do it so it's ok? That's good to know. I most likely wouldn't do something like that,,,,,hmmm, a couple posters do come to mind! Truthfully, that might not be technically in the rules, but by the nature of a board I'd think it's counter productive to allow that.
Yup. This forum tries to be a bit more laid-back in terms of what people can say. It's rude, but no ruder than other allowed forms of speech like "I fucking hate your opinion" or "That was pretty dumb post." I think it would be counter-productive to actually stifle other people's voices. But telling someone to shut up doesn't stifle their voice. No one is under any obligation to actually shut up. And, to be honest, I've never seen anyone choose to shut up.
Honestly, here's the way I look at it. I like the lax rules. Sure, it means occasionally you have to deal with people posting stuff you don't like (such as the "Shut the fuck up" comment). However, if someone just uses that occasionally to make a point, it's probably not really a big deal anyways. If someone were to use it consistently, people would soon start to tune them out. If everyone tuned someone out for posting stuff like that, the poster is getting what they deserve. On a related note, use the ignore feature please. If people are "trolling" they do it because they get responses. If people could restrain themselves from responding, the troll will go away.
Is that why you initiated personal attacks with at least two posters over the past few days? That screamed "ignorance" to me, especially when you can't even frame my opinion in the correct context.
I haven't seen any of the personal attacks cleaned up over the past two days. You guys set the tone of conversation here, and Minstrel's post quite clearly defines what is acceptable. It's like deja vu...
You haven't seen it, so therefore it hasn't happened? OK. Wrong, but whatever. Context matters. Good faith matters. BNM posted "shut the fuck up" because he was tired of seeing people making uninformed medical posts. He didn't do it to insult the poster. He didn't do it to prove a point about how shitty the moderation of the board is. Yes, it is. You seem to bitch about the moderating every couple of weeks, claiming that the sky is falling and that no one knows what to expect. Somehow, though, the community seems to be getting along pretty well, bigger and more active than ever. Ed O.
Reading comprehension fail. I will say that your instinctive defensiveness and singling out of some posters does indeed show some doubt on your part. Some posters are asking about personal attacks and/or rude replies telling people to "shut the f**k up, and a moderator answered by saying that is pretty much the operating procedure. I point this out, and you feel compelled to respond to me for some reason. Feeling OK, Ed? Did I miss something so obvious that you had to respond to my post and whine about me?
My post didn't say "anything goes." I said personal attacks weren't allowed and I defined what I see personal attacks to be. Also, I don't speak for Ed and barfo...they may see different things as personal attacks. As a super-robot-power team, I think we end up largely being consistent over time.
I didn't mean that literally "anything goes". I meant that instead of condemning the sort of response pointed out by Yardape, you instead defended it. It's your board, but if that is the way you want it to be, I'll be sure to post in a similar manner.
Defended it as being within the rules, yes. I'd prefer people didn't say rude things, but you know people. They tend to be an untidy, noisy lot. Equally yours as mine. I have no financial stake in the forum. I moderate to help out. If you get frustrated and tell someone to shut up, I'll defend your right to do so. But I hope you'll do your best to be gracious. I hope that about everyone. I try not to edit, though, unless a rule is clearly broken.
