Re: Quick, Call Al Gore! Two things. One, you should bookmark the OT forum. Two: Global "warming" was the wrong choice of words. Climate change means there can be a drastic change of temperature, and incidences like this does not prove or disprove the issue. Granted, it might not be as bad as has been claimed.
Re: Quick, Call Al Gore! The earth has been cooling since 1998. Too cold now as it is - would love it to be warmer. And the sun is at a lower energy level than at anytime for the last *century*. It's going to get colder, folks, so bundle up and invest in insulation and high efficiency heaters. If anyone really wants to learn the science, see http://wattsupwiththat.com/ iWatas
Re: Quick, Call Al Gore! Sadly Al already cashed in on his pseudo-science before people began to start questioning what he was selling.
I wonder how much carbon will be ejected into the atmostphere to rescue these nitwits. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,509735,00.html
Re: Quick, Call Al Gore! Everyone here is an expert, they don't need no fancy book-learning. Scientific research is for nitwits who don't know all the answers already. barfo
So if the Pope was leading this expedition, you could call them a team of dipnits? Or ShitWits? Which begs the question...what does a dipnit shitwit? An ice toilet of course. He just better make sure he's careful...you don't want a dipnit shitwit getting frostbit.
The pope claimed that condoms help spread AIDS. He's making a scientific claim he has no real expertise in. (Hell, he probably hasn't even had sex since the 1970's.) Such a claim has real-world impacts. That statement may wind up killing people. Calling him a dipshit or a nitwit seems to be speaking too lightly, if anything. You want to compare that to climate scientists risking their lives to go to the North Pole to study global warming. Is that really so far fetched? If the climate scientists suddenly gave a treatise on the differences between the NIV and King James bibles, they would be nitwits. But at least nobody would die because of it.
First, I was trying to use rhyme to be funny. Guess that didn't work. Second, he's not making a scientific claim, he's making a sociological claim, and I would submit that even though I don't believe a lot of what he believes, nor give him any authority over me and mine or our beliefs, he probably knows a heck of a lot more about social concerns vis-a-vis the beliefs of the Catholic church than any scientist does about climate. Third, I'd submit that since priests generally keep vows of celibacy (iirc) he probably hasn't had sex, pre-70's or not. Fourth, why can't a climate scientist talk about the difference b/w the NIV and KJV if they've used both? Fifth, if you don't want to die as a consequence of having sex, don't have sex. Kind of easy. Lots of other things to die from.
Sorry, I re-read your post and realize I came off pretty snippy. I'll blame it on the root canal I'm about to have in an hour. Stating that condoms help spread AIDS sounds like a scientific claim to me. Even if it's only sociological, so what? Is the Pope now a sociologist? Poor bastard. When you put it that way, I might start thinking condoms were somehow sinister if I were in his shoes too. Also bananas, vaginas, hand lotion and the purple Teletubby. I suppose they could. But they'd look like nitwits. Assuming the headline read, "Climatologists Claim NIV Bible is Less Accurate than King James Version." I suppose it might be easy for some (the Pope?) For the rest of us mortals though? Not so much.
