Tallest team in the league

I was just looking at the gameday preview at O-live, and it jumps out at you just how much bigger Portland is than Utah. We're taller or as tall at every position but SG (Brewer is listed as an inch taller).

And that's not taking into account Oden on the bench.

I always think of Utah as a pretty big team.

When you look at the starting 5 plus the other 2-3 rotation players, is Portland the tallest team in the league?

 

Hey, there's one stat that we don't have to exclude RLEC and his age for our benefit!

 

Utah is a pretty small team when you look @ their roster except for Deron, Okur, Kirilenko, and Brewer for their positions but most of their players play "big" like Boozer, Millsap, Harpring, etc. If you look @ their team, they tend to struggle against teams with length like Lakers for example.

 

As far as being tallest in the league it's either us or the Lakers.

 

I've always thought that Utah was decently big with a lineup like Okur/Boozer/AK-47.

Heck, a lot of teams could be considered "Big". Even Orlando plays guys who are 6'10" at the SF spot. In my mind being big means outsizing the other team across the board. Portland certainly has a lot of height though, especially depending on the lineup. When you put Roy at PG and Webster at SG with Outlaw/Batum at SF, LMA at PF, and Oden/Pryz at center you're just about as big as any team is going to be lined up.

I like using a big guard lineup if they can defend adequately. I loved when Pippen was the starting PG.

 

I wish we had real measurements for all the guys, but not all of them went to their respective predrafts. From just the starting lineups of these two teams we lack measurements from Fisher, Kobe, Gasol, Bynum, Blake and Batum.

For starting lineups, my best guess is the Rockets. Yao has about a half a foot over most centers, and MaGrady is probably the tallest SG in the league.

Yeah, maybe about McGrady. Although if you count Durant as a SG he's probably close I'd think. I think Joe Johnson is supposed to be about 6'8" so he'd be around that height too.

One thing that is certain is that Pau is tall. I remember seeing him against someone else listed as 7' in a picture and he was easily 2-3 inches taller.

 

Durant starts at SF these days. Kyle Weaver was their starting 2 until they traded for Sefolosha.

listed measurements vary wildly. For example, Durant is listed at 6'9 which is what he measured barefoot at his predraft. Luc Mbah a Moute measured 6'5.75 barefoot at his predraft and is listed at 6'8.

PJ Carlesimo thought Durant was a shooting guard. PJ Carlesimo got fired. It was the best thing that happened to Durant's career.

 

Yah, but Scola is undersized at PF as is Brooks at PG. Battier isn't particularly big either. I like our size throughout the lineup better than Houston's.

 

And our bench players are big too!

 

We don't have a measurement on Scola, but Battier measured 6'8.25 barefoot which is taller then any Blazer SF by 3/4"... of course he's only starting because McGrady is out.

So side by side, here's the Rockets and Blazer starters barefoot measurements. I either referred to the draft express site, linked another, or made my best guess after googling around the internet... my guesses are indicated with bold type. If anyone has relevant links that clear up the ambiguities I'd love to see them.

Yao 7'5.25 - Joel 7'0 (or Greg 6'11)
Scola 6'8.25 - LA 6'10
Artest 6'6 - Batum 6'6.25
McGrady 6'6.5 - Roy 6'5.25
Brooks 5'10.5 - Blake 6'2

add them all up and the Rockets are 1" taller when Joel is starting, 2" taller when Greg is starting.
