No. If Houston loses a game, but San Antonio doesn't, we will be the fourth seed. Contrary to popular belief, the first tie breaker is not head-to-head record, but rather whether or not either team is a division winner. Therefore if we finish tied with SA record-wise, but they won the SW division, they'll be third, and we'll be fourth, facing Houston in the first round.

IIRC, We would still be tied with SA, though. If that happened, tie breaker #1 would be invoked: division winner vs. non-division winner, not H2H. This is the tiebreaker that we wouldn't hold over the Spurs.

The tie breakers referred to include the division-winner tie breaker first and the H2H tie breaker second.

Interesting. So we by no means control our own destiny, and we need one of those teams to lose to get HCA? ouch.

No, not at all. If everyone wins out, HOU wins the SW, and then we win the 4-5 tie-breaker over SA by virtue of head-to-head record.

If one of them loses, then we end up 4th anyway. So we do control our own seeding destiny; we just can't get any higher than 4th without some serious help. Go Kings!!

So, essentially, a four-way tie at 54-28 would be best for us as we'd play SA in the first round WITH home court.

    Go Houston! Go Spurs!

SA doesn't need to lose a game for us to get 3rd..all we need is to win out and houston lose once.
    2-denver 3-pdx 4-sa 5-hou

All this I can't even process until wednesday. Can't we still beat Denver for the division? Or if we win out, have the same record as them, do they own the tie breaker on us? I am just gonna wait til wednesday. I want our Division!

We need Denver to lose to Sacramento at home on Monday, and for us to beat OKC on Monday and Denver on Wednesday to take the division.

Basically, Denver's magic number to clinch the division is 1 -- one Denver win or one Portland loss.

Yes, but Denver would have to lose against SAC (in Denver) and also lose @ POR for that to happen.

Yes, they have the tie-breaker as they have the better record against teams in the NW division.

    Root for SAC.

Someone on this board said Houston would win the tie breaker due to having a better record against Western Conference playoff teams. If that's true, then we'd get home court advantage vs SA in the 1st round.

But Houston finishes their season at Dallas...and SA hasn't been playing very well lately. They have GS on the road in the 2nd night of a back to back, and may lose that one.

Houston and Denver have 16 WC losses, but for a tie to happen PDX would have to beat Denver which would give them 17 home losses..so if HOU won out, itd go Hou, Den, Us, SA

    Wrong.

If SA wins the division they would have the tiebreaker over us. That would bump us down to #4 hosting HOU.

(assuming Den beats the worst team in the league at home) we need Hou AND SA to each lose a game for us to get #3.

Hou also has the head to head tiebreaker over Denver which actually takes precedence over conference record.

I hate all this tie-breaker shit. Whatever happened to a good-old-fashioned playoff game to break the tie? IMO, if we end the season with the same record as Denver, we should have a one game playoff for the division title.
