Portland wins Houston loses Portland is 3rd seed Portland wins Houston wins Portland is 4th seed Portland loses Houston wins Portland is 5th seed At least, this is what I think... feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
What if all three teams in the Spurs, Rocks, and Blazers win? What if both the Spurs and Blazers lose?
You need to factor SA in. If they win their last game in your scenarios the best Portland would do is fourth as Den and SA would be tied with us, but they would both be division winners, which is the first tie breaker.
I believe this is correct. Whether San Antonio loses or wins is irrelevant to Portland seeding, it only affects whom the Blazers play in the first round.
Portland wins Houston loses SA Wins Portland is 4rd seed Portland wins Houston wins SA doesn't matter. Portland is 4th seed Portland loses Houston wins SA loses Portland is 4th seed
It will be: 2) Houston, 3) Denver, 4) Portland, 5) Spurs It will be: 4) Portland, 5) Spurs. The magic number for the Blazers to clinch HCA is either one Blazer win, or one Spurs loss. Oh, and the only way we can get third is if both the Spurs AND Rockets lose, provided we win.
Okay. Correct me if I'm wrong, again... Only way to get the 3rd seed is if Houston loses and we win. Everything else is irrelevant (we own the tiebreaker versus SA) Only way to get the 5th seed is if SA and Houston win and we lose. Every other combination is the 4th seed.
SA would have the tie breaker over us if they win their division (SA win Hou loss) If SA losses we are guaranteed 4th.
I don't think so. There is some new rule that division winners get top 4 seed, so even if the Spurs and Blazers win, and Rockets lose, we're stuck at #4 against Houston. Or, the Spurs could win, and both the Blazers and Rockets could lose.
Houston doesn't have to win. They have the tie-breaker over Portland. If Portland loses, San Antonio must also lose or Portland gets the 5 seed.
Which I selfishly kinda want. I want the Blazers to meet and beat the Spurs in the first round. And then I want to murder the Lakers in the 2nd round. Even if the Blazers lose the series, I want the Lakers so beat up and worn down by Portland that they don't stand a chance beating Houston, Denver, or Cleveland.
the first tiebreaker for seeding is whether or not the team is a division champ. if houston loses and the spurs win, the spurs win that division and will be seeded ahead of the blazers(though the blazers would still get homecourt over the spurs if they were to end up playing them in a series).
So, as I understand this "simplification", we are already guaranteed HCA regardless since worse case is we're 5th and SA 4th but we have the season series so would have HCA? Correct?
