So if we end up with a 3 way tie we dont get bumped? the way I thought I understood it was... SAS owns the tie breaker with Houston who owns it over us, so we would be bumped to 5th. By virtue of us losing the season series to Houston. if thats how it goes.. it would be like Texas, Texas Tech, and Oklahoma this year in football.
Oh ok I must have heard incorrectly.. I thought that SAS had it, thanks. But just for hypothetical clarification.. if that was the case would we have been bumped?
if there is a 3 way tie, houston gets the 3 seed. i think portland gets the 4 and san antonio the 5, but it really doesn't matter who is the 4 or 5 as the blazers will have homecourt due to having the head to head tiebreaker over the spurs.
So, we've eliminated Dallas as a possible first round opponent. Sweet. Now, it's between NO, HOU, and SA.
Ok guys, correct me if I'm wrong... but isn't it impossible for us to get the #3 seed at this point? Even if we win and both HOU and SAN lose of of them will get the #3 seed because the 3 division winners get the top 3 seeds?? Or are division winners only guarenteed a top 4 seed?
division winners are only guaranteed top 4. but if two teams have the same record tied for the 3rd and 4th seeds, the first tiebreaker to determine who is seeded higher is whether or not one of the teams was a division winner. so in that case the division winner gets the 3rd seed even if they lost the head to head tiebreaker to that team during the season.
Okay, so if we win and both the Spurs and Rockets lose, we get the 3rd seed, if we lose and the Spurs win, we get the 5th seed, everything else gives us the 4th seed. Right?
I think it looks like this: 3rd Seed Blazers win Spurs lose Rockets lose 4th Seed Blazers win Spurs win Rockets win Blazers win Spurs win Rockets lose Blazers win Spurs lose Rockets win Blazers lose Spurs lose Rockets win Blazers lose Spurs lose Rockets lose 5th Seed Blazers lose Spurs win Rockets win Blazers lose Spurs win Rockets lose
