Eagles to make a play for Peters?

Buffalo Bills left tackle Jason Peters, who has been selected to the Pro Bowl the last two seasons, is still unhappy with his contract, an agreement that will pay him $7.2 million in base salary over the final two years. For their part, the Bills hope to avoid a lengthy holdout as was the case last year, when Peters didn't report to the team until the day before the regular season began. They will attempt to negotiate with Peters - who is seeking a pact similar to Jordan Gross' six-year, $56.4 million deal - to avoid another offseason of turmoil.

However, Bob Brookover of the Philadelphia Inquirer has another idea: trade Peters to the Philadelphia Eagles. The Eagles have a question mark in the starting lineup at left tackle, and many draft picks to return to Buffalo. Asked about the possibility of trading Peters, Jauron told the Inquirer, "I don't know about that. He's an awfully good player at left tackle. He was voted to the Pro Bowl the last two years and he's a very unique player, a very unique athlete. He's a giant man."

In the unlikely event that the Bills trade Peters, that would mean that they would have three new starters on the offensive line for 2009, since they released guard Derrick Dockery and didn't re-sign either of their two centers, Duke Preston or Melvin Fowler. On the team needs matrix produced by Scouts Inc., Buffalo's primary need is a guard or center, and they'll likely need to acquire someone at both positions before 2009 begins. Losing Peters would throw a huge monkey wrench in the team's offseason plans, since it'd be hard to acquire a good option at left tackle unless the team trades up in the draft, and the starting left tackle is any NFL quarterback's best friend on the team. After all, it doesn't matter who is out there running routes if the quarterback is on the ground every play.

1st, 4th, and a pick next year is what I have read....its a good deal for both clubs....the Eagles get a young proven LT, and the Bills turn an undrafted free agent signing into 3 picks....
