To bad Blake's name isn't on that list instead of being one that's being abused. Maybe Bayless would be a good idea in the playoffs. He might perform like he did in the summer league.

At this point, I'd love to see Bayless in at PG w/Roy. Both driving and causing fouls.

I agree the rest of the team has to step up, but when it was do or die Roy and LMA made sure that this was still a series. More power to them! When other players start hitting shots they'll get them more involve, but Roy is often to unselfish and thank god he wasn't last nite! Other than Roy and LMA only Rudy had decent numbers shooting. The rest of the players best star taking it inside like Roy was!

I hate to bring up bad memories, but in 2000 the Blazers had 2 starters at every position. The Lakers had two superstars and role players.

Remember all those one and done years when we pissed and moaned about not having a true "go to guy"?

It has been said, and with justification, that in the playoffs you can tell the true superstars from just good players. Cliffy was a good player, an all star, but not a superstar because of his postseason struggles. Look at the great players who won multiple titles. All of them stepped up in the playoffs. They scored more, had the ball more. With Chicago, every play went through Jordan or Pippen.

And when Travis is not hitting shots, Rudy is OK but not stelllar off the bench, the big guys in foul trouble, that is EXACTLY when superstars need to take it to the next level.

I mean, what is Maris' quibble? The Blazers won with their best players having stellar games. Look at the teams that are winning; without exception you see a stellar performance by one or two players and supporting roles from the others. The one exception would be Ben Gordon's spectacular performance in a loss, but that was a neck and neck game that came down to a final miracle shot. And that series will be won by the team that has one or two guys stepping up every game.

You really do just make this stuff up don't you?

Ever hear of the Miami Heat??? Dwyane Wade, Shaq and a bunch of over the hill coat tail riders. After going down 0 - 2, Wade scored 42, 36, 43 and 36 over the next four games to lead the Heat to the title. Wade averaged 39.25 PPG over the last four games of that series, Shaq averaged 15 and nobody else averaged double figures. If Wade wouldn't have taken over the series - much like Roy did last night, the much deeper Mavericks would have won the title.

There are countless other examples of "superstar" leading their teams to NBA titles. In the play-offs, the cream rises to the top, and with a few exceptions 2004 Pistons), the team with the best player one or two players (Jordan/Pippen, Shaq/Kobe, Hakeem, etc.) wins the title.

His quibble is that his favorite player only got 3 minutes of PT in the Blazers most important game in six years. That the coach actually played his best players the most minutes - and it worked, the team won.

Names huh? Well for starters I'd make a play for Andre Miller or Ramon Sessions in free agency this off-season, Miller is old at 33, but durable as hell and his game has never been predicated on blinding speed so it's reasonable to expect that he'd be able to hold down the position for another 2 or 3 years, Sessions isn't a crusty vet, but he's a very solid 2nd year guy who plays efficiently, makes beautiful passes and can actually create his own shot. Beyond that, I think KP finally has the pieces to make a 3 for 1 or 4 for 1 trade, or the capspace to make a lopsided trade for any number of players ... I won't name names because I wouldn't claim to know who is going to be on the trade block

3 mediocre (or just plain bad and/or inexperienced) point guards can be mixed and matched anyway you like and it still adds up to an unsettled position and eventually some hard feelings as guys get squeezed for minutes.

Furthermore, if KP is so in love with these players that he'd be unwilling to let any go to better the team through trades or consolidation then that would make him a bad GM, but since everything I've seen him do up to this point suggests he's not a bad GM I'm guessing he'll try to improve the team -- liking his players as people has got nothing to do with it.

Nik, think of all the great Zurs gear you could have made in the time you've spent arguing with Maris this season. You could have a fully matching set of brown paper bag Zurs gear. If only we could turn back the hands of time. :sigh:

And there is no question as to why Sergio got 3 minutes of PT. If you go back and look, you will see that Sergio got yanked right after some absolutely ATROCIOUS defensive efforts by him, that resulted in our other guys having to foul to cover for him. (As we were already in the penalty)

When our second biggest concern is their PG, Brooks, we can't have our PG unable to guard a chair. Blake didn't play amazingly, but his defense was light years better than Sergio's.

Sometimes I get the feeling I can't help myself, I'm just a disagreeable, argumentative asshole who loves to spar. I know I keep falling for the same tired schtick but it's only because I believe at the core of my being that stupidity deserves to pushed back against ... I'd like to think I'm fighting the 'good fight', but deep down I know I'm edging toward that line (or already crossed it) where the axiom "never argue with a fool, because people might not be able to tell the difference" could apply.

    blech :confused::sigh:

Maris is a charachiture. I don't know if very many people actually take him seriously on this board. He's just another personality.
