Over at Blazers Edge the author of this blog put up a fanpost suggesting the Blazer Dancers should be disbanded because they are too sexist, and that she finds them too degrading. Here is a quote from her blog. This stirred up quite a hornets nest over there....over 220 comments so far. A surprisingly high number of guys agreed with her. One married guy even commented he felt guilty about being aroused by the dancers.

    What do you guys think?

It's just so annoying. Whenever men look at dancers I feel like they feel like they're going to get screamed at by a feminist. Whenever a man (even though several women do it too) question the job Violet Palmer does feminists jump on them and say they only say that because they're trying to bring down a woman. While I'm sure there are some sexists in the sports crowd the majority are saying this because - and I know this may be shocking to feminists - she absolutely sucks balls. Just like Mark Ayotta who is a man.

While there are certainly several issues involving women around the world that need to be corrected IMO that is more of a humans right issue than it is a feminist issue. Women are treated fairly well and fairly equal in my opinion - yeah guys make jokes about girls but guess what girls make jokes about guys. My guy friends when I do something dumb go "lolol girl brain" and I just laugh because it's just words and it''s just a joke.

    I loathe feminists.

The uglier you are... the more degrading hot people make you feel I supposed... and I think there is a distinction between degrading and making someone feel that way.

Personally... I am fine with them going and I have to admit I am not sure I want my 9 month old daughter to use them as role models... but I supposed there is worse. Since I watch most games on TV from a recording I just fast forward through all that.

This lady needs to wake up, it ain't 1950 anymore. Every NBA and NFL team has a squad of dancers. I sense some jealousy. Seems to me like most women love to hate on other women who are perceived as more attractive. My wife goes ga ga over David Beckham, do I hate on her or him for it? No, I'm confident enough to admit that the guy is a good lookin' dude. Not as sexy as HCP of course. :)

the minor "issue" that my wife and I have going to the game isn't the Blazer Dancers...if they want to dance "stripper-like routines" in "stripper outfits", more power to them. If you feel like you shouldn't be taking your daughter or subjecting your son to that, don't buy the ticket. The team is paying them to provide entertainment for the customers. If you aren't entertained, don't watch or don't go. Our issue is the routines that the Jr. Dancers perform. I don't expect to see an erotic/sexy routine performed by a 12 y/o or, even worse, the 7y/o's that they trot out sometimes. But I'm not avant-garde in that direction. :dunno:

Yeah, the whole Jr. Blazer Dancer thing has a very Jon Benet feel to it. I think dancing is a healthy, aerobic activity and think it's great that young girls want to participate. What gives it a creepy vibe is the make-up, hair and to some extent the costumes. 9-year old kids shouldn't be wearing more make-up and less clothing than the average hooker.

My biggest complaints with the Blazer dancers are the music choices and the timing. I've never heard half the songs they dance to before, and have no desire to ever hear them again. I know I'm old, but I think the crowd would get into it more if they danced to songs more people recognized (and liked).

Also, I'd like to see them loose the Blazer dancers in the 4th quarter. Whether, or not, the average fan finds them entertaining, "hot" or offensive, the one they they don't do is incite the crowd to get loud during the 4th quarter. In fact, they do the exact opposite. At the last Laker game, a time out was called during the 4th quarter. The entire building erupted into a "Beat LA" chant - which was immediately stifled by some unrecognizable rap music blaring over the PA to accompany a Blazer Dancer routine. It silenced the crowd and took them out of the game when they should have been their loudest. A real momentum killer in terms of getting the "6th man" involved in the game.

I have no problems with the Blazer Dancers doing their dance numbers before the game, during halftime, between the 1st and 2nd quarters, or even timeouts during the first 3 quarters, but the 4th quarter should be reserved for things that get the crowd LOUD and behind the team - not dance routines and bad music.
