Horrible pick. The Raiders are my second favorite team. Davis is obsessed with 40 times. It's on field speed that counts. If you're so opsessed with speed than you could of gotten Maclin.
Almost as bad as moving up in the first round to draft a third-round quarterback, when you failed to tackle a single running back last year and will have a much worse pass defense due to a scheme change. Top that.
lol Maclin fell all the way down to 19 And who as that safety they drafted? He was projected to be like a 7th round pick. lol
They took Hayward-Bey over Michael Crabtree and Jeremy Maclin at #7... then drafted a random safety in the 2nd round who ESPN didn't even have any highlights for, didn't get invited to the combine, and was projected to be a 7th round pick Al Davis either outsmarted everybody or he should just kill himself.
Gotta give it to Cable; hes a great salesman. Check out this interview with him right after DHB was selected. http://www.ibabuzz.com/raidersblog/2009/04/25/cable-on-heyward-bey/#more-4816 Can't help but wonder if hes just being Al's bitch here or if he actually wanted DHB at 7 too. He says some very fascinating things here though. He said he thought some other team actually wanted to move above the Raiders to get him. That's pretty unbelievable. Also said hes the best route runner of all the top tier WRs which is fascinating because thats been one of the knocks on him. Also brings up the point that he played in a pro style offense, not a spread offense. Says DHB woulda put up huge numbers in a spread offense. Guess we'll just have to wait and see how it turns out. Right now we look like huge idiots.
All I can say is, I hope it works out for you guys. Honestly I'm perplexed at this pick, especially taking him ahead of Crabtree. I don't get it... 2nd round pick was equally confusing, maybe even more. Al has either outsmarted everyone or he has just been a complete moron. Also, no offense, but reading that article, Cable doesn't seem too bright.
