wholly crap is this a match up!! Griffin seems to be tailor made for Silva as Silva is a much more technical striker and will be able to tee off on Forrest who won't have the luxury of being patient and trying to pick off Silva. IMO Forrest is going to go for the takedown early after he gets stung a few times. http://fiveouncesofpain.com/2009/04/28/forrest-griffin-vs-anderson-silva-expected-for-ufc-101/
whoa, thats a crazy matchup if it actually happens. Forrest has a solid chin but no way he beats Silva and will probably get knocked out.
Griffin is big and he has good leg kicks. If he's brave enough to chase Silva, it should make for an interesting fight.
Anderson KO 2. I'm so fucking excited for this match. However, if anyone could upset Silva, I think Forrest could. He always overcomes adversity.
I don't think Griffin's work ethic and heart will be able to overcome superior skill this time. Against Shogun and Rampage Griffin was able to outwork and out hustle those guys but against a guy like Silva whose work ethic is among the best in MMA theres no chance for Griffin. This is a win-win sort of situation for Griffin though, similar to the Shogun match. He loses, whatever, who expected him to beat arguably the best MMA has to offer, he wins he gets another huge boost and probably next in line fight for the title after Rampage.
Could you imagine if Forrest won? He beat Shogun (at the time considered a top 3 PP), He beat Rampage (same as Shogun), and now..Silva?
I got Anderson Via KO in the 2nd too. I think Forrest plays it a bit safe and uses the leg kick and back peddles until Anderson catches up to his timing.
I consider the Forrest - Rampage fight almost a draw though. I think Forrest could beat Anderson. I don't think Forrest will fight like Cote or Leites, and I think he'll look to take down Anderson early, and try to outcardio him later on.
I consider it a draw, if anything. I don't think Forrest beat him but whatever, he got the W so it counts for him. Forrest is awesome as the underdog. If anyone can upset Anderson, it is Forrest.
letting loose vs Anderson Silva = sleepy time. He's an unreal counter striker and being overly aggressive plays into his hand and you end up looking like James Irvin.
I agree that Forrest's best bet is to go for some take downs and ear points and try some GnP to win this fight. I don't think his submissions are strong enough to catch Silva, but controlling him with wrestling to a W is the way to go. Thing is you got to get him down each round and that gives Anderson 3 chances to put Forrest to sleep when he goes for the takedown. Silva can strike effectively from his back too. Forrest is tough and smart enough though that it's not impossible to envision him winning this fight. I just wouldn't lay cash on it.
