While I think Outlaw's defnitely a nice guy and fun story, and Sergio's no doubt helped Rudy's transition is it time that these limited players be cut loose in hopes that our main stars bond together? Outlaw's defensive lapses are simply intolerable and while his skill of creating his shot is great at the end of the shot clock bail-outs for the most part it seems that it hurts us as teammates over-rely on feeding him. Sergio has his obvious limitations which I think with development could be improved upon greatly but Nate clearly cannot live with him. Is it time to cut our losses at the expense of some "camaraderie" in order to make our team tougher and get our future main cogs to bond better with each other?

I like that the team is all close and makes good stories for Quick, but it's time to treat them like men and break up the cliques. With these moves Rudy/Roy/LMA/Oden will need to hang out with each other, as Sergio/Outlaw/ and Bayless will be gone, and some vet leadership will be injected.

    Trade #1

    Bayless/Blake for Steve Nash

You laugh but on their boards a lot of them are saying it'd be a decent return for him. He's nearing the end of his career and could use the reduced minutes we could offer, and he needs some decent defensive bigs behind him to mask his defensive woes (which aren't much worse than Blake's). Our offense becomes two tiered with Nash, he plays the role of pushing the tempo the first half of the shot clock and trying to find our bigs and cutters easy buckets, then Brandon controls the second half as Nash plays a Blake spread the floor role. We're the closest he can come to playing a big role on a championship competing team probably unless he goes back to Dallas w/Dirk, but I still think we're better personnel wise. Phoenix saves a bunch of money and gets a nice local prospect in Bayless who can still put fans in the seats. I know salaries don't match but we're able to do the move based upon cap space (and absorb the 7 million dollar difference).

    Trade #2
    Outlaw/Sergio/#24 to NY
    for #8 pick (Stephen Curry)

Not sure if they have the cap space to make this work, but it could work out pretty well. (maybe a sign n trade or we get filler or something, Cat Mobley is expiring, but we don't want to swallow 9 million, hmm) perhaps they give us cuttino and three million, making it even financially.

Outlaw and Sergio are perfect fits for Dantoni ball, and would flourish in NY playing for a coach who isn't keen on developing younger players anyways. We get a player who can spread the floor fantastically, plays with a ton of poise, and will be good for 15mpg his first year in the league. Long term Curry could look very good as a compliment to Koponen or Roy in an off-ball SG role next to a larger 'PG' yet defending other PG's. His shooting is lights out, and he is a very smart player, and great passer, would be fantastic for our bigs.

Sign Antonio Mcdyess or Kurt Thomas along with Desmond Mason.
Bring over Joel Freeland and Peterri Koponen

    Nash/Curry/Koponen
    Roy/Fernandez
    Webster/Batum/Mason
    Aldridge/Mcdyess/Freeland
    Oden/Pryzbilla

While there are always injury curveballs on paper that's a perfect mix of vets, rising contributors, and projects and I think that roster could legitimately compete for a championship next year. With Outlaw gone defensive lapses will be much fewer and far between, with the injection of Nash, Webster, and Curry the floor will spread wide open for Oden and Aldridge (both of whom should be improved next year w/Oden's moves and conditioning and Aldridge's strength), and our roster should be much better equipped to push the tempo. Although we appear weak at PG realistically it'd be alright with how much Roy and Rudy play on the ball it's more like we're shallow at SG (not as big of a concern for people), and that team just looks a lot tougher than this years.

Let the obsession go. Without even considering if it's logical or not, it's hard for me to really get into reading a post that I've seen mentioned over and over again. We get it, you want Nash and Curry.

Stephen Curry? We need less jump shooting on this team and more guys that can with their backs to the hoop.

no. If we are going to draft someone (I hope we dont) there are other players we could get or try to get.

I like Bayless right now, but i'm not against getting a vet PG. Best of all i'd like to obtain a young stud PG like Sessions or even Ellis (kinda a PG... at least he defends PGs and brings it up the floor).

I also think we should work on SF. I don't know if Batum is the answer at SF for next season. I don't know if Outlaw should be on the team at all, and I don't know anything about Webster.

We'll see. I assume KP will work his magic during draft day, which makes me excited. Getting Bayless last year was almost as good for me as getting the #1 pick. I was sooo happy and running around.

there is a skip in this record. Same thread with a new title over and over.

Hey shameless, why not just reread the responses from last week or the week before that etc... Do you really think anyone has changed their thinking?

I wonder what the odds are that I'll see the exact same word-for-word post if I go to RealGM.com or blazersedge.com?

What are you talking about, he'd be awesome? He'd take the ball out of Brandon's hands, miss twenty games with his bad back, and play matador defense so our bigs get stuck on point guards cutting into the lane. What's not to love.

In only looking at the NY trade, no, they will not have cap space. They are at $76.4 mil for next season with out factoring in a draft pick. If they are doing a trade they want to ship out one of Eddie Curry or Jared Jefferies who both have two years left on their contracts. Also, D'antoni is not keen on rookies and only likes 8 man rotations. The pick is available in his mind, not sure if it is available by Walsh though. Your trade would work if we took back Jefferies, but he is a terrible contract and Curry is not worth that much. I think we need Bayless over Curry.

While I don't think Nash would be as bad here as some do, I wouldn't trade serious value for him. He's a mediocre at best fit for this style, and he's breaking down. I basically would only want him if Phoenix was giving him up as a pure salary dump (e.g. no Bayless included). I'm fairly sure they can get better value than that for him from some other team.

McDyess would be great, but I think he wants to go to a more obvious contender. Sure, you could argue that Portland is up there, but a safer bet for him would be someone like Cleveland or Boston.

I don't understand the Mason suggestion though. Do you really think he'd want to sign here to be the 3rd string SF? Maybe he fell off a lot this year, I admit to not having any idea how he played. Even then, for a 3rd string I'd rather have a prospect than a vet. Neither is going to play enough minutes to make a difference this year, but at least the prospect might in the future (and if not, they're at least cheap).

Nash really picked it up at the end of the year IMO, I don't think he'd be that bad of a fit really. No one fit Porter's style well as he basically asked Steve to play a Blake (only feed the post) role, Nate tries to get us to pick n roll a lot and is always urging the team to run, it's Brandon and Blake who refuse to.

IMO if you had Roy crashing defensive boards and leaked Aldridge 1/3 of the time we could have a real nasty 1/3/4 break with Nash, Batum, Aldridge or Nash, Webster, Aldridge and Roy and Oden or Pryz on the secondary break w/Roy spotting up and the other just barreling towards the hoop. That's what Greg did a ton in college and it was unstoppable.

As far as Mase goes, I don't think he'd necessarily come here to be third string, but I do think that with Nash and Roy missing time occasionally and no real backup rookie PG (Fernandez would play there a lot) that there would be 15mpg for him.

    Nash(25)/Rudy(12)/Curry(11)
    Roy(32)/Rudy(12)/Batum(4)
    Batum(16)/Webster(20)/Mason(12)
    Aldridge(34)/Mcdyess(14)
    Oden(28)/Pryzbilla(20)

then you add injuries and fouls into the mix.

And just how did that "going back to the good ole days" strategy work out for Gentry and the team? Sure they picked up their offense, but still got bounced from the playoffs and didn't exactly win at much higher of a percentage than they did under Porter (.580 after the break and .560 before the break).

Let's be real, Nash is breaking down fast, his back is chronically bothering him and he's now officially old at 35, that's a terrible combination of factors which don't bode well for his durability for the next year or two that he's in the league.
