Why? It ws a head scratcher, but how many top rated wide receivers pan out to be what they are supposed to be? TJ Houshmanzadeh was a 7th round choice. I don't really think you can judge the NFL draft by Mel Kipers ratings. Everyone thought Reggie Bush was the next greatest player ever and he has been a disappointment. The NFL draft is a major crap shoot IMO.

That's true. To be honest I've grown on the pick more. Recently I've heard that Crabtree told the Raiders he didn't want to play for them. He seems like a typical big time WR headcase. DHB seems to be much more low key and apparently has a crazy work ethic.

FWIW the reasoning behind picking Bey makes a little more sense when you hear what Cable wants to do with him. We wanted a guy who could stretch the field and open up the run game and the middle of the field for Zach Miller. Schilens and JLH are both speedy WRs but JLH is best suited as a slot guy and Schilens is suspect regarding whether he'll pan out. We also want high character, hard working guys. This is a run first team (much like Maryland was). We don't want guys who are going to whine if they aren't getting a ton of touches.

I was also never convinced Crabs was anything close to a sure thing. He never gave a 40 time right? I know he had the foot issue but it seems kinda strange. Obviously theres a lot more to playing football than speed but I don't know many top shelf WRs who appear to be as slow as he is. The spread offense skews things as well. Like Cable said, DHB coulda put up crazy numbers too if his team passed 70% of the time and ran out of the shotgun the whole game.

I doubt DHB will be a star but he could be a good fit for us. Maybe a Bernard Berrian type player?
