His surgery was a success but it takes time to recover. He wasn't fully recovered this season. He just needs to fully rest this summer.
For his acl or the bone chip? (I was curious bout the bone chip. Didn't know he got surgery if he did)
Ugh, let's get this straightened out. Greg did NOT have surgery to remove the bone chip in his left knee; it was something that only needed time to heal itself. Greg had microfracture surgery on the articular cartilage of his right knee a little over a year and a half ago (roughly) -- a procedure which most doctors estimate takes about 18 months to fully recover from (in terms of athleticism, explosiveness, etc.)
cdub brings up a good point though . . . weren't there talks of Oden getting authroscopic surgery in the off season to get the bone chip out? If that is the case, he can't really work on his game for about 6 weeks anyways . . . Edit: I could of sworn there was some talk about playing through the pain and dealing with it this summer. But I see Nik talking about that injury just needing time. I could be wrong about the surgery talk for the bone chip . . .
As I recall, the "talk" was by a few members of this forum guaranteeing that Oden would have off-season surgery, based on nothing.
Oden's game needs a lot of work. I'd like him to be in Portland working with our people to make sure he learns to stay out of foul trouble and to average at least a double double next season.
Well that would explain it since I use this site as my Blazer source. My bad . . . thanks for the clarification.
It appears as if it did. There hasn't been a report that he's experienced any discomfort and he hasn't missed any time because of a problem with that knee. It just took longer to recover than we thought it would.
I always wondered if that chick (in the video) was smoking pot and then got emotional off of it or its just an act. My first time that I saw my ex smoke some pot, she got paranoid and told me at 9 pm at night that i wasn't supposed to drink a pepsi. She got all upset and started crying when I went to the fridge and got one. I ended up just getting the munchies when she just tripped out on me having a pepsi and her friend had to comfort her. I'm fine if Greg goes back home and gets his mind on his own priorities in life. He needs to get away from the game for a bit.
If education comes first, Oden should have stayed in school and delayed starting his career. He's being paid millions of dollars by the Blazers now. Education should not be "first" for him; his job should be. That said, I don't really care what he does and where he does it other than he come back as something other than the stiff I watched for much of the season.
I do hope Oden realizes that he is taking a big risk from a PR standpoint. He has a right to do it, and it may even be the correct decision....but if he doesn't show serious improvement next year, even the most fanatical kool-aid drinkers will be hard pressed to keep making excuses for him.
he's taking no risk at all from a pr standpoint. the people who already hate oden and constantly degrade him will continue to do so regardless of what he does. him going back to school over the summer than many other players do isn't going to cause a pr problem with reasonable people.
What a completely made up argument. Other than Hank the Dwarf and Fez, please list these other people you are referencing.
I think those who are complaining about it, would complain about anything, given the chance. It's not like the guy quit the team and went back to school. He's taking summer courses. And it's not like they're ALL summer, or probably that many. It's no different than how probably the majority of the team is stepping away from a basketball court for a while.
