So Mark Cuban apologized to Kenyon Martin's mother on his blog???

Good lord. He doesn't have the ovaries, er, whatever, to apologize to her face?

It was reported that Martin's mother and girlfriend had beer thrown at them by "fans" in Dallas, and Carmelo Anthony's wife had to leave the arena. And IMHO Cuban has to take a lot of blame, although now he is also playing the victim and saying "no one" gets more abuse on the road than he does.

I remember when some Blazers fans said they wished Paul Allen would be as "engaged" in the game as Mark Cuban. Thank God he's not! In fact he shows you can be an involved owner without making a classless spectacle of yourself.

I agree with everything you just posted. I like Cuban but he went way over the edge on this an is a coward for not apologizing in person. I like how PA conducts himself at games and am really glad we have him as our owner.

Yeah, Cuban's shown himself to be a classless bastard on so many occasions, it's no longer schtick, it's just sad.

He's a child, and he needs act like an adult.

Seems like there were several scuffles in the crowd last night in Dallas. George Karl seemed pissed about it during his postgame conference. Between Dallas and Houston fans, they showed their true colors during these playoffs.

Well it's pretty obvious the more Cuban makes the decisions in Dallas, the worse the team gets. Otherwise, why do you think Don Nelson is gone? I think when it got to the point that Cuban was dictating and not taking any feedback about personnel, it was time to get out of there. The guy just can't recognize when he has a good thing going and recognize when to quit fucking with it. Then on top of it, he goes out, and gives the opposition extra motivation to play against the team.

    Please - Don Nelson?

Don Nelson fucked up every situation he was in - Mark Cuban or not (See GSW this year).

Mark Cuban sometimes does seem like the most insecure billionaire out there - by far - but in a case of Cuban vs. Nelson it is hard to take sides for either of them - since they both seem like petulant kids.

he apologized for the behavior of the fans at the game not for calling kmart a punk, right?

i don't see how this is cuban doing something bad. and it's true that he probably does get more abuse than anyone else on the road, but that's his own fault so he can't really complain.

He had said to KMart's mom that her son was a thug. Then he apologized via blog. If he can be insulting to her face, IMHO he can damn well apologize to her face. And whether or not he gets abuse on the road is irrelevant. His talking to her in that way was inexcusable. Go to her and apologize. Period.

i thought the apology on his blog was in regards to the fans behavior and had nothing to do with him calling kmart a thug.

but now that i've read it he does mention the comment and apologizes for it. he also offers to allow the families of the nuggets players to watch the next game in dallas(if it gets to one) in his personal suite with his family or to provide a suite just for them if they would prefer that with additional security. he also offers to take kmart and his family out to dinner in the offseason to talk things over.

but yes that certainly makes him classless and a coward.

His blog is the way that he communicates. I don't think that he should drop everything he's doing and seek out KMart's mom and drive to her house and apologize to her face-to-face.

He's offered to host her and KMart's family at the next Mavs game (in his suite or a private one for them). He's offered to take KMart, his mom, and his family out to dinner this summer. Presumably he will apologize in person at those times.

Coward? Give me a break. Many of us communicate on blogs as a matter of course and since KMart decided to take it public that Cuban had insulted him to KMart's mother (correctly, IMO... Martin DOES act like a thug on the floor), it seems perfectly reasonable that he would make a PUBLIC (via his blog, which is his primary mouthpiece for communicating with the public) apology.

You're a coward for calling Cuban a coward over this internet message board, as opposed to doing it to his face.

Actually sounds pretty nice that he invited them down to Dallas like that, and the dinner invitation, etc.

We can all mock Texas for having low life classless fans, and "showing their true colors", but then forget the class acts of fans in our own state, when UCLA played Oregon two years ago? How about fights that happen at the Rose Garden when the Lakers are in town? I've sat next to some pretty terrible Laker fans, but it always ends at shit talking. Not beating people up. The double standard thrown out here by some is a joke.

Excuse me, if Cuban can go up to a woman and insult her son, why can't he seek her out to apologize?

I do not have personal access to Mark Cuban so don't try to change the subject. I also did not mention Texas generally.

I am aware there are people in all locales who think beer and a ticket give them unlimited freedom to insult and assault others.

My reference was to one person.

How do you know he "went up to her"? I haven't seen anything other than that he agreed with someone who had called the Nuggets thugs by telling KMart's mom it included her son. It sounds to me like they were sitting near one another.

That's not quite the same as driving to wherever she lives to apologize for saying something that many people (within a basketball context) agree with.

Well it might be the highlights of it on Sportscenter and NBA on TNT where you could even lip read what he was saying to her? Just maybe...:tsktsk:

What does it matter if he went to her or if they were sitting next to each other? He acted like a dick either way - you are just trying to split hairs here.

Telling someone's parent that his child is a thug - is a classless act. Simple as that.

    Even Cuban knows it:

Trying to present it otherwise based on their seating arrangement is nothing more than spin.

Personally - I think he should have at least picked up a phone to apologize. Maybe he did, I do not know.

My question is, what did she say to him before he said what he said to her? Something tells me that Kenyon's mother isn't exactly Miss Marple...

Not at all. There's no hair-splitting.

crandc claimed that if he could make the effort to criticize KMart, then he should be able to make the effort to apologize to his mother face-to-face. The two levels of effort here are markedly different, PARTICULARLY if the former happened while he was sitting near her at the game.

    Indeed. That's why he's apologized.

It's why he is admitting he is wrong and is willing to host KMart's mother and family both in a suite and for dinner in the off-season.

It's not spin to argue that sitting near someone and making a comment during a basketball game is not the same as driving across the Dallas metro area to apologize to a woman face-to-face.

Maybe a phone call wouldn't have been enough for some people. It's not face-to-face.

And you know that how? Not being confrontational, it is a sincere question. Any chance you can hook me up with a video clip again?

Were I Cuban, I don't think I would want to invite K-Mart to hang out with me around town after this incident. Something tells me that K-Mart isn't the forgiving kind.
