I still don't think that talking to Milwaukee about a restricted FA makes much sense right now, and it surely doesn't merit a "you won't believe" comment from Pritchard to Canzano.
I'm not even sure we can assume he meant "is" an nba player, he could have meant "is going to be". A draft pick, in other words. My vote is the KP was just jerking Canzano's chain, and didn't mean anything at all. He was probably talking about dinner reservations or something. barfo
So they were internally talking about bringing Magic Johnson back to run the point. I'd actually be surprised at that development. I'm not sure how chatting up Ramon Sessions with Tom Penn would elicit that reaction from KP.
He apparently also said that "his idea of something great might not be someone else's idea of something great." Which clearly can apply to Sessions, if he likes Sessions. You'd fall into the group that doesn't consider it great. A prime Magic Johnson would be everyone's idea of great, so I don't really understand your sarcasm. He clearly isn't talking about a superstar that everyone thinks is wonderful.
If Magic still has game right now, and if only KP knows it and is working him out, it would be a shock to me. Chatting about Ramon Sessions, who 99% of Blazer-related sites know about and somewhat covet, isn't a big deal to me and SHOULD be discussed internally. I'm not expressing a view on Sessions one way or another. It just is within the realm of belief for me that he could be a target. Short of that, it's a LeBron James or a Kobe Bryant or a Tony Parker that would have me suspend disbelief to even consider.
Diving in a little deeper into that comment. Let's turn back the clock to June 2007. KP had brought Ramon Sessions in twice for workouts. Pick #52 rolls up and we are on the clock. KP wants to pick Ramon Sessions and recomends this to Nate, but let's Nate have the pick. Nate takes Taurean Green, while Ramon Sessions goes 4 picks later to Milwaukee. So could KP possibly be talking about Nate when he says it "might not be somoene elses idea of something great"? God I hope so.
And whoever this mystery player is (if, in fact, Pritchard was being serious) would be believable to some, as Pritchard said that the player might not seem great to everyone. We have "You wouldn't believe this player!" and "What is great to me might not be great to someone else." That basically covers anyone except a clear star/superstar.
Well, it's just speculation, but I agree that Sessions isn't exactly a "Man, seriously, if you only knew who I was talking about." kind of guy... because people either would recognize him (and therefore kind of expect it) or they would not (and they would not be excited by him). Who might it be? Who knows? The quote makes it seem that KP is excited, though, and I doubt Sessions as a free agent is the kind of guy that would get him that excited... even if it would make the team significantly better. Ed O.
I only pick at the Baron Davis posts when you repeat them twice a week but seriously, I'm not trying to piss you off or get under your skin. Now that I think about it I realize I may have mis-heard this part of the KP interview this afternoon, I got the impression he was responding to JC's question about needing to add toughness or maybe taking a chance on a guy with a checkered past
I'm thinking along the lines of that it is a guy that will be a salary dump where we'll get him on the cheap when we'll be able to take back money salary in a trade. Or maybe it's a younger player, but we'll have to take a bad contract back to get him. Really, it could be anybody from any of the teams in financial trouble.
The average fan won't care, and Sessions actually led Milwaukee to a worse record than Luke Ridnour did as a starter in a weak Eastern conference. Hmmm...
I can't find the link at the moment, but I could have sworn is was Canzano....Maybe Quick or Jaynes though.
Here's an article on the Buck's situation http://www.brewhoop.com/2009/2/16/759896/the-bucks-dilemma-re-signi Is it possible that KP held on to LaFrentz when he had a Richard Jefferson offer, knowing that LaFrentz was Milwaukee's only hope of keeping both Sessions and Villanueva, therefore also knowing he could pawn off Sessions later? Is he that good? No way, right?
God, some of you take these little statements and hit the ground running with them... I don't even look into these little tidbits until come time to sign free agents.
It's the off-season. It's either take these little statements and hit the ground running with them or get some sun. I think we've all made our choice.
The average fan is irrelevant if it'll make the team better. Check out the drafting of Brandon Roy over Adam Morrison for further proof in case you forgot. Did you check to see how many of those games Ridnour had with Redd and Bogut vs the times Sessions started? If not, you should maybe take a look back before making any conclusions off one piece of data. Indeed, I couldn't have said it any better myself.
