Suppose you knew for a dead set certain that (a) Portland had to draft a guard who could play PG (b) No trades would happen - the player drafted would be on the roster for '09/10 (c) Rubio and Harden are gone Who would you like (and don't go by Mock Draft rankings - the Thunder ignored them and scored with Westbrook. Just go with who you like)?
eric maynor. and i don't necessarily agree that the thunder scored with westbrook. bayless could have put up "good" numbers like westbrook did on the thunder and eric gordon and dj augustin could have easily had similar success there as well.
I picked Flynn. He seems like a true distributor, a decent shot, great with the ball and enough size.
Brandon Jennings is the only true PG on that list, and probably has the most upside and potential to be a star. If we HAVE to make a pick who is a PG, I say go for the home run pick. AKA: Brandon Jennings.
Jonny Flynn is a true point guard. And Jennings is probably the biggest risk on that list. Anyways I say Flynn.
I rather not have any of them and give Bayless a chance. I really don't want any more rookies getting big minutes and would by far rather sign a FA PG with Bayless as the backup.
From that list I like Holliday's age, upside and tremendous size for the position. If we're talking about players likely to fall into our range at 24 I'd probably take Collison; he doesn't have a real high ceiling (or maybe he does with his quickness?), but I think he's got great potential as a backup who's already proven that he can get it done in a pro-style, half-court offense and he plays both ways.
Because he didn't get to play much oversees and his numbers weren't impressive when he did play. This is just my opinion and I think there is a higher probability of him being as good as he was supposed to be out of high school but IMO I would say he has more risk than the others.
Why are we trying to draft a point guard though? I'm not ready to give up on Jay Bay. Bring in Miller, move Jay Bay to backup, problem solved.
Agreed. I just viewed the thread as more of a thought experiment than an actual desire to draft yet another point guard. Then again Steve "Soft Core Porn" Blake's contract is up next year so I guess it doesn't hurt to have one more horse in the stable.
How? All he's shown he can do is shoot. Even against bad competition he barely ever got to the basket, even when they were completely playing him for the shot he didn't get around people often. He would be my last pick out of the players listed.
I agree. We have three young PGs, Rodriguez, Bayless and Koponen, let's make sure none of those players are the answer at PG before we feel like we have to draft another one.
While I'm not in favor of drafting another point guard, how does "bake it" have anything to do with the draft? Are we abstaining from the draft now, so we can bake it?
