Tmac would be fine if he would wise up and let somebody else help him carry the load. If he came here, this is Brandon Roys team, and he would be second fiddle. I actually think it would work, just because the team is no dependant on him to be "the guy". Plus if it doesn't work out, you have 23 million off the books. 23 million is a lot of dough, and a lot of dough in the "Right year".
I agree Hasoos...I mentioned this earlier in the year...If you can limit TMac's minutes during the regular season and he can accept being the 2nd or 3rd fiddle, you likely can prolong his career and when he is healthy and not counted on to carry a team by himself, he can be a force.... This would not be a bad deal at all IMO....
As they say, the devil is in the details. You would essentially be giving up cap space this summer, in exchange for cap space next summer. The question is, what is that worth to the Blazers? Will the 2010 FA class really be any better?
I hadn't thought of it like that. We'd have about $52.6M in committed salary to 10 players after next season + any first rounder we likely stow away in Europe this year and the first rounder we'll have headed into the the 2010 draft. That number could be less by about $2M if we did some tweaking. Maybe like $7M in spending money in 2010.
Merlin, is that you? I had no idea you posted on these forums. Seriously, I usually agree with a good 75% of your posts. But I do not agree here. Webster was a HS to pros pick. they are always inconsistent until they get consistent PT to finally get it. In 07-08 when Webster started he learned the game with good PT. I fully expected him to have a very good year last season coming off of all the PT he got the season before. Unfortunatelly he was lost to injury. I am expecting him to have a great season next year, especially if Outlaw is gone. I would like to see Webster at summer league for two reasons, even though he is far too good to be there. One, he gets some burn and can test the foot. The second reason, to help Bayless. If Bayless is running the point at summer league with the same no name yahoos that he had last year there, then he will not have much success as a PG. Give him Webster to rely on to knock down a shot for him. As for T-mac, forget him. Microfracture surgery for a player that can never stay healthy.
By all accounts, the 2010 free agent class will be the best in NBA history. So yes, it will be better. Mostly this is because LeBron, Wade, Bosh, D Howard, and a bunch of other quality players will be free agents that summer. There is a reason why a ton of teams are aiming towards having cap space in 2010.
I have it at about 40 million for 7 players. If you add in a first rounder this year that brings it to about 41 for 8 players. My question is this. Can Roy and Aldridge be extended after next season, or can we only give them a qualifying offer? I know we can extend them after July 1st this year, but when does that period end? If we could somehow do it after next season that would give us about 25 or so million to spend on FA's in the summer of 10'. I don't think we can extend them though after next season, we can only sign them to a qualifying offer and hop to fuck they don't become FA's. Reagrdless. what is the max we could give Lebron James? We'd have around 17 million in cap room next off season. Roy, James, Aldridge, Oden,,,,,hell, HCP at PG. That team might be fairly competetive PS I answered my own question below as to why not resigning them doesn't work
If we extended them now there would be no cap hold. It would just be salary, and it would leave the Blazers with 17 or so million in cap room and about 8 players going into that off season.
