I am on the do not trade for Rubio wagon as well..quit wasting Roy's peak years with more youth, we played 4 freaking rookies last year, time to add a vet damnitt
What do you consider to be "peak" years? Personally? I don't consider 25 to be a peak year, let alone 24. I think that 27-32 or so are peak years, and our team is two or three years away from that, in my opinion. Ed O.
54 wins tells me they are damn good right now, so why set back the clock by bringing in an 18 year-old at the potential expense of an experienced veteran?
The owners will lock the players out in the summer of 2011. If Stern gets his way, and he always does, there will be a new CBA, with a hard cap, no Bird rights, no MLE, etc. Every team in the league will have to undergo a drastic rebuild of their roster. Punting the next 2 seasons makes no sense, when the future is somewhere between unknown and a bloody mess. Our window IS the next 2 seasons.
How can you take a cap hit to take on Hinrich (giving the Bulls relief) and have cap room to sign Hedo, too?
Ask the Hornets how merely adding a veteran worked out for THEM. I'm concerned with getting the best possible roster, of course, but I am not willing to sacrifice the future for the present. The Blazers won 54 games, and we all expect bigger and better things from them next year, but the odds are decent that they will backslide due to injury or other NBA craziness... I would prefer the Blazers add what I consider to be another foundation piece in Rubio than in keeping bench depth. Ed O.
I am not in the business of knowing what the CBA is going to look like in 2012. Sorry. If our window is the next two seasons, I don't like our chances one bit. Our team is too young to have a good chance at winning a title, IMO, in the next two years. Further, I think that KP disagrees with you, or else he would have been MUCH more likely to add Wallace or another veteran at the cost of Rudy or Batum. He clearly values youth and a longer-term vision than some Blazers fans. Ed O.
Hornets' result = every team. The Hornets regression had nothing to do with Tyson Chandler being hobbled by his ankle, I'm sure. Perhaps they should have traded veterans for a crapshoot rookie. I'm sure their season would have been even better.
He is close to his prime and I don't want to waste top 10 MVP years building for 3 years from now, we are good enough to win it all now, with the help of some solid vets. Like I said, we have enough youth (oden, bayless, batum)
Agreed. Roy said this team is ready to contend next season. No more rookies! We need guys who are ready to play now and not for another 2-3 years.
I'd be pissed if Pritchard passed on the opportunity for a fistful of championship just to get one or two. That's the way I view it. Let's just not settle another notch in our history books. Let's start to contend with San Antonio for fourth in championships!
If the Hornets had a chance to add a young stud, rather than Posey, of COURSE the team would have been better off adding the young stud. They added a "veteran presence" because they wanted to improve on their previous success... it didn't work out, and they're going to be in worse shape for it in the future. Ed O.
This team should not try to win now at the expense of the future when its core is still a few years away from being at its prime. Ideally, we'd add both Rubio and Andre Miller... something for the future as well as the present. I don't think that (m)any people are saying NOT to improve now... but I'm reading "no more rookies" from some people here and I just totally disagree with that. Ed O.
Fine, I'm a selfish old fart who wants to see the Blazers win another title in my lifetime. Do you think the Celts (or their fans) regret giving up youth for Allen and KG? They may only get 1 title to show for it, but that banner will hang in the rafters as long as the team exists. 1 title is worth 10 oh-so-close disappointments.
No. But their youth was not considered a likely championship core. Portland's is. Also, there's a massive difference between getting "a veteran" and getting a late-prime first-ballot Hall of Famer (and a second possible Hall of Famer). If San Antonio wants to trade Tim Duncan, sure, I'm listening.
And as I have said before, you never know what will happen. Bfrandon or LaMarcus go down with a serious injury, and that could be it for years.
No doubt. Why not try to win now when we can and Brandon has said that we can. We can cycle through role players just like the Bulls did with Paxson, Ho. Grant, Cartwright to Rodman, Harper and Longley, and guys like BJ Armstrong, Toni Kukoc, Steve Kerr, Jason Caffey, Scott Burrell, Stacey King, Scott Williams, and so on and so on. Our core will always be here with Brandon, LMA, Greg, Joel, Rudy and whoever else. KP said our core is already there, it's just about finding the right pieces to go around them. Role players can be found.
For all those people who don't want Rubio because they want a "vet PG" - who is this guy? Andre Miller? Talk about Rubio not proving anything - when has Miller ever won ANYTHING? Plus he will be 34 next season. Never a shooter. Rumored not to be a great teammate - certainly has never inspired anyone. Jason Kidd? Great, love him. But how much has he got left? He'll be 37. FIVE years older than Bibby. TWICE Rubio's age. Nowadays guards 2Gs while Barea or Terry guards the PGs. Steve Nash? Not a free agent. Makes Sergio look good on defense. 36 Next season. Mike Bibby? Makes Nash look good on defense. A comparative youngster at 32 next season. Ramon Sessions? Are we sure he's all that? Why is Milwaukee letting him walk and targetting Jonny Flynn? REALLY can't shoot. If Milwaukee thought he was anything, they could match any offer anyone made. So please, enlighten me. Who is this savior? (If the thinking is that we only need 20 mpg for a season or two out of Kidd while he "tutors" Bayless, well 1. Bullshit - when has a vet PG ever produced an understudy? And Nate was a very good PG and is a hell of a lot better tutor than Kidd. 2. Rubio is far further along in PG skills than Bayless, and Bayless hasn't even shown he can shoot in the NBA.)
