The point is he shuts his mouth and provides a body for practice. Lets face it. Your 13th player or even further down the list should never hit the floor unless it is a blowout. Hell if I was going to do it, what I would do is go old school, cut the roster down to 12 players, and spend the money saved on making the 12 guys you have be a higher level of talent. 12 guys was enough in the old days. It is enough now. Cut 3 guys, spend the money on higher level talent for the guys you have.
boone is actually an almost average big, where as sergio is a far below average guard. straight up its a good deal for the blazers, but you never know what kind of player you can get from #33.
If this is true it if absolutely hysterical. Orlando gets Carter, Cavs get Shaq, Spurs get RJ .... Portland gets a box of popcorn.
1st, off it is an O-Live rumour which makes it suspect at best... 2nd, it was #38 pick that was mentioned and not #33.... If it were true, it wouldn't be something I particularly liked...kind of ho hum..... I think POR has been linked to interest to Boone before though....
lol good one. Im not some huge fan of Boone but the guy can come in and hit the boards and play a little defense for a few minutes a nite. I wouldnt want to rely on some second rounder in possibly the worst draft ever to provide the same. BTW if NJ did just trade Carter for Lee why would they want Sergio? Make no sense.
Boone is a big body and he doesn't turn 25 until November. He's ugly as sin, and I'd like to get a better backup power forward than him, but he's not a bad player and I can see why this trade would make some sense. Ed O.
1) How do you know they're not. 2) Does it really matter, I was responding to a poster that was talking about 5-6 min/game.
It's not a good deal though if you attach a name to #33. Vic Claver and Sergio for Boone. That sucks monkey butt. We're trading two quality reserves for a one quality reserve that plays a position we don't necessarily need, while taking on more salary. I don't like that.
Claver would just be stashed in Europe for a year or three, and Boone presumably WOULD be needed to be our backup power forward (like Frye was this year). It's not my favorite, but it's not terrible IMO. Ed O.
1) I dont know what a 2nd rounder would contribute and neither do you. That's the point. 2) That poster was me and it doesnt really matter. Just pointing out that Boone is a good enough rebounder and defensive player to give us a few mins a game at the 4. This move isnt worth caring about either way really. ZZZzzzzz
calling sergio a quality reserve is not true imo. and calling claver one is pure conjecture at best. boone is currently a quality reserve, an average player. im still not in favor of adding a pick though.
I had it in my head that he was a center. I agree he's not a bad replacement for Frye. I don't want to give up those assets though for him. Now, if we could use one of our other second rounders, that's different.
Sergio helped us win 54 games. I view him in a better light than most. He's still young and will improve his game each season for a few seasons. Claver shares the same potential. He's 20 and in the ACB League did quite well. He's progressing to the point where it's safe to say his ceiling is an NBA role player.
I keep looking for youtube video on Josh Boone, and all I'm finding are videos of every player in the NBA dunking on him. Of course, youtube is not a standard to measure players with, but I've just never run into that kind of consistency before.
