I know this was aluded to given the cold climate, but it sounds pretty real. Rubio was clear before the draft that he would come to the NBA just on endorsements, so the buyout is not the issue. I wonder if the Blazers would be interested in him. My guess is that they like him, but he doesn't fit well in their window and they don't want to wait and develop him. Link
he edited it to include the link.. its at the bottom of his first post. He was saying you were too fast, you asked before he edited.
The Knicks are super high on him and rumors are that they are trying to entice Minny to trade his rights to them. Rubio might be threatening to stay in Spain to try to force Minny's hand, since he really would prefer to play in a bigger market.
I posted the information first and went back to get the link, but you hopped on before I could post the link. It was a tweet from Kevin Love.
What can the Knicks offer? It's not like the need Lee. And I can't see Krypto-Nate playing next to Flynn. Portland has to be able to put together a better deal. I just don't know if they want to lose the talent now in order to get Rubio, who will take a few more years to develop.
Much, much, much more endorsement money. Rubio during his rookie contract would probably make twice as much endorsement money in NYC than any other market, and 5 to 10 times as much as being in Minny. Since the only net dollars he will be earning after the buyout costs are from endorsements, it really matters where he goes.
Not to Rubio, to the T-wolves. No doubt Rubio makes endoresement money. But what do the Knicks have to offer in trade? It would have to be a three way.
I wonder if a Flynn/Curry backcourt would've been better for them rather than getting Rubio, and trying to trade him for something.
Last years #6 Gallinari would seem a good start... the Wolves do have needs at the 3. I'd also think the Knicks would have future #1's that should be of great value as with or without Ricky they've little chance of winning much in the near future. STOMP
utah owns next years NY #1 unprotected. trading chips include... wilson chandler? is al harrington expiring? david lee in a s&t? gallinari? maybe gallinari, chandler, and al harrington for rubio and the minni bad contract poo poo platter. we could do bayless, outlaw, euro rights and just take thier salary without sending an expiring. id rather have gallinari personally, but i doubt they would deal him, he seems like a better prospect imo.
I don't blame Kahn for holding this stubborn stance. It'll only maintain or drive up Rubio's value. If I were Minny, I'd be on the phone right now with New Jersey about packaging Rubio for Brook Lopez. Deal off Al Jefferson for a SF (Gay?) and you have a team on the right path.
