Just indicated Jeff Pendergraph was going to be traded. Hinted towards the Bulls as part of a Hinrich deal. I was listening to this at work. Did anyone else catch it?
I heard it. He said it was just a rumor, but there could be a deal when the salary cap gets put together on July 8 and Pendergraph could be moved as part of a package. He also said there could be several deals out there that haven't been reported that will be made after July 1.
Why after July 1st? Couldn't teams just trade those players now. There are no restrictions right now correct but once we hit July 1st we can agree to trades in principle but they can't be announced until a later date correct. I guess I don't understand how all the other trades such as Shaq to the Cavs were able to be announced yet the Amare to Golden State alleged trade reported by Bucher on ESPN couldn't happen until after the 1st. If the 2 teams agreed, then why couldn't it. Maybe there was base year compensation players involved, I'm not sure.
Deng used to excite me but since his injury he has never looked the same. I think there are better options out there and honestly I think I like Batum now more then Deng for his defensive ability. Hinrich though, I'd be down with.
I think I remember hearing something about trades being possible before the draft, but not possible until July 1st once the draft is over.
The new cap numbers take affect July 1st probably. That's my only thought. No one really knows what they will be until then. Maybe even July 7th or 8th
Hmm.... well.... I remember we had to wait for the Bayless trade to be official too, and the James Jones one... didn't we? Those were made during the draft.
Luol Deng is a BYC player. We may be waiting because we're not under the cap yet. if it's an unbalanced trade, we would have to wait until the NBA fiscal new year (July 1st) so we could make a deal like, for example... Blake, Outlaw and Pendergraph/Claver (approx 10 million in salary) for Deng and Hinrich (approx 20 million in salary) If we're 10 million under the cap, that deal goes through. Right now, it wouldn't. Or just Hinrich (9.5 million) for Outlaw/Pendergraph (4 million)
The new cap and player salaries roll over to their 2009-2010 salary on July 1st. So with players who have declining salaries (like Kirk and I believe Blake) it makes them a little easier to trade.
Thats what I don't get, some can be made but not others. Must be because of salaries of the players involved changing to match on such given date. Otherwise i'm confused.
I am pretty sure draft picks can't be moved between the draft and July 1st, but in theory Portland could trade Blake, Outlaw for Hinrich right now
Deng, yuck. i hope not. His contract is long and awful for the production that he has put up since his injuries. I hope we are not waiting on making a trade because he is part of it. I would take Batum/Webster rotation any day over Deng and they are both considerably cheaper. There are beeter options out there to upgrade our SF position.
Well if your right and Monter says Pendegraph is part of a trade for Hinrich then thats why it cant be announce until after the 1st. But wait, those trades can be announced on draft night though right. Thats what we did with Telfair to Boston. So if that was the case why not announce the trade last night?
True. Your stats tend to take a hit after a season ending injury. His real issue was the new system he was playing in under Boylan/Del Negro. He played very well until they started dicking around with his minutes after Skiles got fired. For some of the same reasons, Hinrich's game has fallen off. I think they were both victims of their system and both should flourish in a new setting. Deng is only 24 years old and has a chance to return to form in a new situation. I think Portland is a perfect situation for him. His contract is only awful if he keeps getting hurt. When he was one of the best young SFs in the game, under Skiles, he was putting up sick numbers and was worth every penny of his contract. Plus...and I say this a lot but nobody seems to listen...you don't have to pay his contract. Paul Allen does. So what do you care? We're going to be over the cap no matter what. Fuck it...in for a penny in for a pound. We should get the best players we can irrespective of what they get paid. I dislike Webster. All he does well is shoot. Batum will be excellent...but when? I'd rather have Deng in there as the starter for a couple years and then deal him if need be if Batum really starts to come alive on offense. Either way, Batum will probably get 17-19 minutes a game again this year, just like last year. I just don't see him as being ready to start and log 30 minutes per game. There are better small forward options? True. Better REALISTIC small forward options. Who? I mean you can't just trade for anybody. Maybe Gerald Wallace? Yeah, I like him a lot...but he gets hurt more than Deng, so the same argument can be used against him as you used against Deng. Turkoglu? I just don't get the fascination with him. He's a solid player, but I don't love his defense. Deng at his peak >>Turkoglu. And while Turkoglu isn't ancient, he is 30. Since I don't think we're going to challenge for a championship for a couple more years, I'm not sure how well he fits into our championship window. I guess I just like Deng more than any other option.
