So I've been reading alot of these FA posts, mainly centered around Hedu and how the whole free world thinks he's coming here.

Not that I'd dislike signing bigTurk, but, [as this post is titled] call it a hunch, I DON'T BELIEVE WE'LL BE SIGNING TURKEYGLUE.

As for specific evidence as to WHY I feel this way, I have none. That's why it's a hunch, but I just can't shake this feeling that he really doesn't offer us THAT much. While I can't help but give him mad props for his playoff performance and acknowledge his clutchness (that stupid bankshot 3 was one of many reasons we had to play Houston in the 1st round...) All that aside, he needs the ball in his hands to do what he does, just like Brandon. The best way I can describe his game is a cross between Martell and Brandon...2 players we already have. Add to that fact that, in other roles he's not a great slasher and is a terrible defender, and then pile on the fact that he wants $10 MIL per year, and I think we tell him thanks but no thanks.

Again, no evidence or "inside" info whatsoever, but I believe that Ariza (should his health check out ok) is the guy we want. He's an effective slasher, can hit open shots (which we know are available when our offense is clicking) and is a tremendous defender and energy/hussle player. Say what you want about his foul on Rudy, but one thing you cannot say is that he gave up on that play, which, in the sporting world has to count for something. To add to TA's "pro" column, he's younger than Hedu, will come w/ a smaller pricetag, and will mess w/ our biggest hurdle to a championship.

    Just one man's opinion.

Ugh... Not a fan of EITHER! Hinrich is a marginal upgrade at best and Deng hasn't impressed me in nearly 2 years. Given what it'd take to get them, I'd rather stick w/ Blake/Bayless and Tell/Outlaw/Nic.

I should add one more idea I certainly don't mind...

I'd be fine w/ us simply upgrading at PG this offseason. Whether it be Bibby, Kidd, Miller, whoever. If we can somehow acquire that upgrade while maintaining capspace into the season I feel we'd be able to get a sweetheart of a deal at the trade deadline. There will be lots of teams trying to clear space for next years Free Agents and we could get a great salary dump from a team that's out of the playoffs *cough* Caron Butler and the Washington Wizards!

hinrich and deng are only marginal upgrades but you think ariza is the target? i don't see how he is anything more than a marginal upgrade(at best) himself.

He might not be a HUGE upgrade overall. But he'd be a very sizeable upgrade in what we need. Namely, perimiter defense, toughness, hussle and energy, and slashing. My point was that Ariza brings all of this. Hedu doesn't bring any of it.

Lets be real, this team's offense is good enough, or damn near close to good enough to win a few titles. It's defense where we lack. While Batum did a very admirable job for us, he's not ready to be the starting sf in title contention.

    Marginal upgrades over who?

Hinrich, despite what the idiot beat writers say is a huge upgrade over Blake defensively, and is at least equal on offesne. Though he draws a lot more fouls than Blake does.

Deng is also a huge upgrade at SF assuming he is healthy. Now while injured he is a marginal upgrade though.

I am amazed at how many people avervalue the players on this team.

    We really like this team.

Travis has done some good things for us.

    Steve is a real competitor.

Please take your cup of kool aide and move to the back of the line.

No way. I don't mind Hinrich but wouldn't touch Deng for his salary. I like Batum a lot more then Deng and even Webster would be better IMO.

I don't see Ariza as much of an "upgrade" over Batum.

Webster's career high PER is a whopping 11.97. 3.03 lower than the league average.

Deng's career low PER is 14.20. That is over 2.00 higher than Webster

Here are Deng and Websters stats from Websters last healthy year, and Deng's down year last year. Webster's last healthy year was his best PER year.

    These are PER 36 minutes

Webster is 1 year younger than Deng

    FG%
    Deng .448
    Webster .422

    3pt%
    Deng .400
    Webster .388

    FT%
    Deng .796
    Webster .735

    Rebounds
Deng 1.7 ORB, 4.6 DRB, 6.4 RPG In every category mind you
    Webster 0.9 ORB, 4.1 DRB, 5.0 RPG

    Assists
    Deng 2.0
    Webster 1.5

    Steals
    Deng 1.3
    Webster 0.7

    Blocks
    Deng 0.5
    Webster 0.5

    TO
    Deng 1.6
    Webster 1.4

Deng also has a slightly better defensive rating than Webster does.

Keep in mind, I am not using Deng's best season. I al using last years numbers, when he supposedly stunk because of injury.

The only category Webster leads in is TO per game. Martell is better by 0.02 per game. LOL wow.

Whomever is saying we should keep Blake over Heinrich (or Dre) is crazy.

Blake WONT get us above our 1st round; it just wont happen, we desperately need a quick, slashing player like Bayless or Dre, or hell Heinrich will due (for his defense).

I love Blake, but It was really apparent, in the playoffs, that he can't perform as well as we need. OR we need a more productive SF.

We had a long thread about this, but Hinrich didn't even get to guard Rajon Rondo, who destroyed the Bulls, in the first round. He instead got abused by Ray Allen.

I agree that Turkoglu would be a strange target, and here's one reason: 82Games.com ranks each team by PER difference/position. It's one rough way to work out where you have strengths and weaknesses. Our rank in SF is 7th in the league! Behind
    Cleveland (obviously)
    Denver (makes sense)
    Philly (Iggy's pretty good)
Boston (I hear Paul Pierce is the Truth)
OKC (didn't they pick somebody after Greg Oden?)
    Indiana (Danny Granger)

Then it's Portland. Some key other teams:
    Orlando (11)
    Lakers (12)
    Chicago (13)
    Memphis (19)

Here are all our positional rankings:
    PF: 2 (!)
    SG: 3 (no surprise there)
    C: 16 (!!!! I imagine that should change soon)
    PG: 16

So, by that metric, and assuming C will improve by itself, PG is our key weakness.
(PF is very surprising considering our lack of depth. But Aldridge does rank amazingly well by a lot of the "new metrics".)
    Other key PG ranks:
    Philly (3)
    Boston (4)
    Miami (8) !!??
    Phoenix (9)
    Charlotte (11)
    Milwaukee (12)
Chicago (15) - one spot above us.

    Fun to read that. Thanks.

Can we start the Aldridge is better than Roy threads now? LOL

Seriously though, I am a little surprised we are that good at that spot.

    We do like our team.

We have developed all of these young guys

All of our guys do fit our culture

No reason to upgrade the worst starting PG in the western conference.

No. Batum is better than Deng and his 69845698 dollar contract.

Ariza is better than Deng and his 2934760296 dollar contract.

Rondo played well, but he didn't 'destroy' the Bulls. If he 'destroyed' them, it wouldn't have gone to 7 games with 28659025986 overtimes.

    Yeah okay. Your always right.

    Kirk/Deng over Hedo?

Hedo has developed into one of the best all-around offensive players in the game who's still early in his prime.

I would pick Kirk over Miller if we can get Tyrus in the package.

    Kirk/Tyrus/Hedo >>> Ariza or Kirk/Deng

Rondo averaged a triple-double for the series. He destroyed the Bulls backcourt.

Check Hedos stats from when he played for the Spurs.

    Not too impressive.

His game doesn't fit our system, which is similar to what the Spurs run.
