:dunno: I'm not against signing Hedo, but I seriously question if he is worth 5 years/$50 million. More to the point, I am puzzled that a SF would be our first priority.

I don't understand why the dollars a big deal at this point.... who cares if we sign him for 5 years at $50 million? We will be so far over the cap once Roy, Aldridge, and Oden sign extensions, it really won't matter at that point. I'm all for signing Hedo.

Also, I think we already have a deal in place for a point guard. It might be Kirk Hinrich. I really wouldn't be surprised if we sign Hedo and trade Blake/Outlaw for Kirk.

Once I saw your guys' responses, I was at ease with my worries.

I'm still not sure where Ariza ends up, but it won't be Portland.

Hinrich is a much better defender than either of those two. that said, I don't want any of the three. Ray Felton does both. Excellent defender. Can drive and kick. Can play half court offense. Best option out there.

    Hedo Turkoglu Welcome Thread

Welcome Hedo!!! I know it's not a done deal yet, but I'm very excited. He makes us better in so many ways and he has Finals experience. I assume we will then deal Blake and Outlaw to Chicago for Hinrich. Bulls get more talent and Blazers get the upgrade at PG that they want. You all know I love Outlaw, but I can see the big picture here and that is that these moves make us a better team that will do better in the playoffs. I will always be an Outlaw fan and root for him and the Bulls whenever they're not playing us. Outlaw & Blake will definitely make the Bulls a better team that should be able to get HCA in the playoffs next season.

    Go Blazers!!!

Re: CBS Sports reporting Blazers after Turkoglu / Quick reports talks with Hedo's age

It seems like Paxson has always had a man crush on Hinrich, so I doubt he'll be going anywhere. Even at the expense of the 26 year old Ben Gordon who led the team in scoring the past four seasons. Since Gordon joined the club, the team has had only one season under .500. Paired with Derrick Rose, the Bulls had one of the top back courts in the NBA last season (38 PPG / 10 APG). Next to Roy he'd give the Blazers the same situation (40+ PPG, 9 APG).

Why spend $50M on a 6'10" guy who gives you 5 RPG and who's going to be pushing 40 when the contract runs out?

Ruc Bucher has Turkoglu listed as the #1 free agent available, above Miller (#3), Odom (#5), Kidd (#8), and Artest (#9).

Agreed. A slow, slightly above average shooter who couldn't defend my grandmother. This will put a lot of pressure on our centers to defend both Hedo's man as well as theirs.

In the end, this will actually hurt the team.

Please say no to us, Hedo. Please!! Take your flopping, no defense game elsewhere.

Re: CBS Sports reporting Blazers after Turkoglu / Quick reports talks with Hedo's age

I'll be pretty disappointed if this deal happens. It reminds me a lot of when the Bulls added Ben Wallace. Before that, Chicago was already one of the very best defensive teams in the league, but couldn't generate much offense in the post. So they try to make themselves even better by adding Ben Wallace. But Wallace was already on the decline, and his offensive game was non-existant. And any gains they made on the defensive end were minute (how much better could they really get?) It was a complete failure. They signed him for way too much, and the guy has been fobbed off a couple times, his contract always being the biggest reason you couldn't trade him for value.

Now let's compare that to Hedo. We already had one of the most efficient offenses in the league last year, but couldn't really contain elite swingmen. Guys like LeBron and Artest just lit us up. So we add a Hedo Turkoglu, who has just had the best season he'll likely ever see. But his defense is in the same mediocre-to-below-mediocre category of guys like Outlaw and Webster, so we still have the exact same problem we had last year. Except we're locked into a contract for a 30+ year old guy, and will continue to be so a year or two from now when Batum will finally be able to provide that veteran defensive presence for 35 mpg we'd needed all along.

Every year a new list of "The Worst Contracts in the NBA" comes out, and people scratch their heads and say, "What on earth was the team thinking when they inked that deal?" I expect Turkoglu to be on that list in about two more years if he comes here.

We're one of the only teams around that have the money to ink a big deal. I'd really rather see use it on things we actually need.

Turk is not an allstar, but he is a player that makes his teammates better. A samll forward that can feed the post, shoot off the dribble, shoot the 3 and play team defensive. He has skills and IMO was the most valuable player at the end of games for a team who went to the finals. You guys can blow off chemistry all you want, but I think this guy would fit in well and would eliminate the need to bring in a PG that would NOT fit in well with Brandon.

Most games are one in the final few minutes. Having Turk on the floor would be huge.

I'm kinda with you there. I would rather go after Sessions with our cap space.

I agree with many posters here. I would be disappointed if this happened. I am not a Hedo fan, and don't think we need a no-defense playing outside shooter at the 3. I think we need more of a defender, cutter, high energy, fast break type guy to balance out our lineup.

Re: CBS Sports reporting Blazers after Turkoglu / Quick reports talks with Hedo's age

I agree that we should get players that address our biggest weakness: perimeter defense. However, I'll play devil's advocate for a minute:

Roy does too much, and if it hasn't bitten us yet, it will. While our offense is very efficient, it is predicated on Roy bailing us out. Artest, who sings Roy's praises, says that Roy's defense "sucks". Of course, the reason for this is the energy he expends on the offensive side of the court. By getting a ball-handling PG, the offense will flow better, and Roy will end up having to do less work. This will allow Roy to spend more energy on defense, improving our team defense.

As for Turk's contract, let wait to see how large it is. With Miles, we were bidding against no one, and we went way too high. I'm not sure we're really bidding against anyone this time. If the contract is too large, then yes, it will harm KP's reputation.

Re: CBS Sports reporting Blazers after Turkoglu / Quick reports talks with Hedo's age

I really don't get all of the Hedo hate.

He is one of the best passing forwards in the league, he can get the ball into the post, While he will never be confused with Bowen or Rodman, he is a capable defender, he can stretch the defense and take his defender off the dribble, he seems to be a team player, Dwight Howard has begged him to come back, so he must think he is a valuable piece, when his contract is up, his replacement Batum will be the ripe age of like 24-25, he can play several possitions on the floor.

He is not the ideal guy, but it's not like he doesn't bring things to this team it so dearly lacks.
