Outlaw 4,000,000 + Blake 4,930,000= 8,930,000 x .25 = 2,232,500 8,930,000 + 2,232,500= 11,162,500 We can take back up to 25% more than we traded away in salary. So go put on your thinking caps and tell us who you think we will be getting with that 11mil.
That's assuming we fill up our cap space by signing free agents. If not, we can take back more than we send out, even beyond the 25% rule. There's also the trade exception, which I believe is around $3 million. Basically, I think you're vastly underestimating the amount we can get back if those are the pieces we send out. Which is a good thing.
Soda, there is no trade exception anymore. We have (had) to renounce the two TEs, the MLE, and LLE to get cap space.
We can actually take back 9.6. Outlaw is scheduld to make 3.6 this season, Blake at 4. 7.6 total x .25 = 1.9. 1.9+7.6=9.5. 9.5 + 100,000 = 9.6 million. Kirk Hinrich makes 9.5 million.
According to the salaries page Blake makes $4,930,000 - so - it is $10,660,000 and change... that they are worth, trade wise. This is Hinrich + one of the rookies they drafted (which could make sense if the deal was discussed prior to the draft - they did draft two power-forwards, didn't they? So it could be Hinrich + Taj Gibson for Blake+Outlaw or Hinrich + James Johnson for Blake+Outlaw+Pie Chart...
This salary page kind of sucks. I have seen quite a few errors on it. It's funny that it says it is Storyteller's contracts, yet that is notthe contract storyteller's has for Blake.
I could be wrong about this but I'm pretty sure that when you are under the cap .. the 25% thing goes away..
You are correct Hank. So we sign Hedo, and sign Pendergraph, and then we are at or over the cap. Problem solved!
If the Bulls lose Gordon to the Pistons, I don't think the Bulls would trade Kirk. My guess is that it's going to be Miller for a S & T for 3 years, around $27-$30 mill.
Actually we are under the cap, so we can take a lopsided deal. It doesn't have to be equal if you are under the cap.
If we sign Hedo - we will not likely be under the cap. But, if we are under the cap - we can trade for their salaries + filler to the cap. There is a $2m difference between Hinrich to Blake+Travis's salaries - so in the unlikely event we are under the cap (let's say by $1m) - you can sign one of the 2nd rounders for a 1 year partially-guaranteed contract in this range and trade him with them.
The Blazers are over the cap when we go into this year anyhow, because if we don't bring in players now, and we sign Roy and Aldridge to extensions, and then have Greg coming up for extension possibly the year after, the Blazers are going to be over the cap for the next half decade at least. They have to do something now, or the only way to bring in talent after this is via draft or direct trade, and the veteran exception.
The extensions won't count against the cap until next summer, but you are correct that this summer is probably the last the Portland will have any cap space to play with.
Not necessarily true.. we could let Joel, Blake and Travis walk next year and have around 14-15 mill in cap space even after we extend LMA and Roy. Not likely - but possible
