If I were Rubio, I may have done the same thing. I wouldn't want to come over and put myself in a worse position. It's a business and he's making a business decision, yet people are knocking him for making the right decision. I don't get it.
I am not a Spanish expert, but doesn't El Periodico mean The Magazine? Are you going to trust what is found in a rag titled The Magazine. If I read something in a paper called The Newspaper, I think I would assume it was bullshit. That said, if Rubio doesn't play organized basketball at all for one year, he can re-enter the draft since Minni loses his rights.
He must not be confident in his ability. All he is doing by staying in Spain is limiting the number of years he will have to be making real big money in the NBA.
He may not have chosen Spain if he had been a higher selection. Higher selection means more money to use to buy out his Spanish contract. I certainly don't blame Rubio for using what leverage he had. In every other walk of life, people are considered smart for using a superior opportunity as leverage in a negotiation. If a friend of yours said he negotiated a raise at work by pointing out to his boss that he had better opportunities somewhere else, I sincerely doubt any of you would call him a whiny bitch. It's only in sports that athletes are expected not to have any human concerns and simply be life-size toys for the fans' amusement.
He isn't old enough. Up to a certain age, you have to enter the NBA through the draft. Kobe Bryant threatened going to college if Charlotte didn't trade his rights...had he done so, even though he'd have spent a year out of pro basketball, he'd still have had to go through the draft the next season.
